Osteoarthritis (OA) is a condition in which low-grade inflammation results in pain in the joints, caused by wearing of the cartilage that covers and acts as a cushion inside joints. Due to decreased movement because of the pain, regional muscles may atrophy, and ligaments may become more lax. OA is the most common form of arthritis.

I need to get a knee replacement and I am afraid of many things, yet I know my quality of life will improve so much. I am afraid of losing my job, I am the only one who does this particular job and it is a necessity everyday and one knows you are never irreplaceable. I also have an eating disorder and the fear of weight gain is huge. how does one know when is theright time to d this? I am afraid my manager will not believe me as I have been working without complaining and the upcoming season of busy, I am working in a large supermarket, will be hear before you know it. the doctor told me with what I do, I will have to be out at least 2 months! I don't want to get them in a bind, but I do want to feel better and do the things I enjoy without paying for it later. any advice?

Don't have knee problems and so sorry to hear about yours. Have had a few surgeries though. Truthfully only you can tell when the time is right, if the pain is very bad and the only relief is surgery then I say do it now before it gets worse. Your boss will understand and with PT hopefully you will be back to work before you know it. I understand you don't want to but your work in a bind but you have to listen to your body and the doctor. Best of luck

I have had enough and have decided to call and schedule for late september, early October, he is booked out as it is. te pain gets so bad when I do things I like and dontlike, such as cleaning, that I finally talked to my manager and he was fine with it. I told him how I felt bad about leaving them in a bind and he said I have to take care of myself first. I don't want t end up like a co worker who can barely walk. fear is huge, I have such trouble wit decision makingand the fear of making the wrong one. has anyone had a replacement and know what it is like afterward, how bad is the PT?

The PT after knee surgery is hard work, truly. I went 3X a week, I am overweight and was 66 at the time. I am stubborn (er, determined is a nicer word) and when I did some of the things, yes, there was pain, but the stretching of the muscles always made me want to do a bit more. We did some things at home as well. The pain is nowhere as bad as before the surgery! Surgical pain was significant but the Dr saw to it that I had plenty of meds, bless him.!
