Try a medical supply store, sometimes referred to as a durable medical supply store. If you can't find one, ask your doc or pharmacist for a recommendation.

One of the docs I had said I could get customized stockings through the hospital's physical therapy department. I did need a prescription to do that. And since my docs weren't requiring stockings, I decided just to try the standard ones (Ames Walker, Jobst) to see if they helped my comfort levels.

I was thinking of buying some as I have just had a DVT. They put a compression stocking on my other leg while in hospital and said they couldnt put one on my DVT leg. Ive been on Coumadin for almost 2 months and the doc hasnt mentioned if I need to be wearing it. The clot ws just above my ankle in my calf due to my ankle being broken. So maybe that makes it different, I dont know. Should I be wearing those compression socks?

Some docs are bigger fans of the compression socks than others. For most folks with DVTs, the socks can reduce swelling and pain and help keep the blood moving through the leg. They can also help reduce the risk of long-term problems (like PTS). But, there are docs out there who just never recommend them. You could ask your doc about it and see what his stand is ... but you can also just head down to Walgreen or CVS and pick up a pair to try out. They'll run you $20+ but it might be worth it if they help you out.

My doc didn't recommend them, not until I actually was diagnosed with PTS. I think he was concerned the stockings would cause more issues for me at the time of my DVT diagnosis. And then I didn't have many issues with my DVT leg. That was until 18 months after the fact, when I started having PTS symptoms.

So there may be a reason a doctor doesn't advise you to wear them, so I'd always check with your doc first about whether he recommends them. I mean, ultimately you can do what you want but it's good to know the thought process that goes into why they're not recommended.

My doctor recommended them but I switched to the Venowave eventually.

I feel uncomfortable with compression stockings because, for me, they really feel suffocating my feet - and mine were already custom-made. I dunno if the company that I went to don't know what they're doing or it's just me being uncomfortable with socks in general. I may not have that much option because I live in the neck of the woods here in NC.

Another thing is, everytime I wear my socks I have to bend over to my toes' level. I'm pretty young but already have back problems. The bend's angle is way way too much effort for me. So switching to the Venowave was a good idea as I'll only bend down to the level of my calves.

And it's easy to remove my Venowave compared to compression stockings.

I'm in no way connected to the company but if they want to hire me as their spokesperson, why not as long as I get compensated LOL

And the Venowave's more expensive I have to admit - paid $500 for it. It was an impulsive buy mind you but in the end with my personal circumstances, it was worth it.
