Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. So, I went to the periodontist yesterday. Have been putting this off for nearly a year due to the fact that while I was pondering having the work done I developed my second blood clot.
The periodontist told me that I should get approval from the hematologist before making an appointment to start the work. Of course, when I called, she was out of the office until Monday. I have decided to stop taking Warfarin after having been on it for 8 months. My blood work came back negative for a blood disorder. I have problems with pain in my shoulder and upper arm and the non-aspirin barely makes a dent. I feel wobbly all the time and have to hang onto my husband when we take walks as I am terrified of falling since I fell 8 years ago and broke my wrist in 4 places. Not sure if feeling wobbly is a side effect of Warfarin.
I am tired of trying to manage pain and it's become an obsession. I have trouble sleeping too because of the pain.
The doctor told me a few weeks ago that I could make the decision to go off Warfarin if I chose to do so and that I could do aspirin therapy.
Does one have to be weaned off Warfarin or do you just stop, cold turkey?

I was going to stop yesterday but decided to wait until I spoke to the doctor on Monday. The periodontal stuff could take months and I am hoping not to lose the tooth. My dental insurance is over in 2 months time and then I go on Medicare which for the most part does not cover dental. Like all of us I feel like there's too much juggling going on with health issues.
