Hi all,
I was wondering if you migt be able to help me out a bit. I had severe stage 2 hypertension for almost 8 weeks and they finally thought it was renal artery stenosis. so they did the angiogram and found out it was not there---yes, I was the 1 out of 10 people who experience "false positives" with the MRI. So now we are back to square 1.
They do believe I have venous insufficiency due to leg problems, the swelling of my legs and the venous ulcers I had on my feet. I will be seeing a vascular person soon to check for that. Now, from what I have read and understand the only really good reason a person gets venous Insufficiency is because of DVT.
I know that when I am sitting down with my feet all the way down or if I am laying down curled up and go tostand up I will almost fall over due to the pain and loss of feeling I feel in my legs. Then I hobble around for awhile. Also, I had a job at a convenience store before this happened and I worked 8-9 hour shifts about 4-6 days a week. At this job, you could not sit down unles you were doing somethng in the back and then it was for a few minutes. You were not allowed a lunch or even 15 minute breaks. I was smoking then so I would take about 4 smoke breaks a day lasting about 5 minutes each. I would sit on the curb outside and stretch my legs out. My feet ached so bad becausce all I wore was a pair of $14.00 tenny shoes from Wal-Mart. I wold come home and I could barely get myshoes off. My legs up from my feet looked like the trunks of young saplings. It would literally take anywhere from 4-6 hours of constant massage (electrical) to make them feel better.
Can something like this cause a person to get DVT? Isnt DVT the only thing to cause Venous INsufficienccy? How long does it take to get rid of a blockage in your veins? If my doctor says I have the arteries of a 20 year old does that mean I have good veins also? If he looked with an angiogram and saw no clots in my femoral arteries could he have seen any other clots, or would that be for the vascular guy? Finally could DVT be causing my high blood pressure issues? Thank you guys you are the sweetest ever!!!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? DVT is not the only cause for venous insufficiency, some people can have it even without a prior DVT.
About how long it takes to get rid of a blockage in your veins(DVT), it depends on how quickly the DVT is diagnosed, how long it takes to reach your therapeutic INR since the starting of the treatment, how extensive is the blockage and also it differs from person to person(health, age, etc); this process can take anywhere from 2 weeks to even one or two years.
The real problem is the fact that even if your veins are not blocked or narrowed anymore, you can still have problems like pain, swelling or even ulcer due to veins valves being damaged by the DVT.
If your angiogram is clear, does not mean that the Doppler ultrasound for the veins will be also clear, 2 different things.(the vascular surgeon is looking for the following: a possible DVT, any venous narrowing, if the valves are functional, if not how big the reflux is and if the reflux is in the deep veins or in the superficial ones(less serious than in the deep veins) or in both).
I know that high blood pressure can be a risk factor for a DVT(in conjunction with other conditions), and not the other way around.
