Actually since pregnancy increases the risk for blood clots and given your clot history, it's probably good you're going to be on Lovenox.

Call me crazy but if can handle lushing a baby out of your body Lovenox injections seems like a piece of cake. You can do it.

Pregnancy can exciting, but also nerve wracking regardless of complications or not. Unfortunately, raising these little creatures is full of worry, but also extreme joy. It is all worth it.

I had my DVT well after having my girls, but believe lovenox injections is pretty standard for pregnant women with a history of DVT. I know one of my close friends had to do the injections during both of her pgs. I know she had her husband do it, but she did fine and so will you.

Now, I can speak on the subchorionic hemorrhage. I had one during all three of my pregnancies. I had spotting with all 3, and all 3 u/s showed a subchorionic hemorrhage. It was scary, but all 3 were carried to term with no problems. They are actually quite common, and usually just resolve on their own. I was told to "take it easy," and put on travel restrictions, but that is it.

Congrats again! Worry is normal, but try hard to not let it ruin this exciting time. It is easy to let it take over, don't let it!!

No more Sub-chorionic Hematoma and is cleared up after 14 weeks, thank God. We are at 19 weeks today, almost half way!!!! I have not taken Lovenox yet, and so far, I do not have swelling in my legs. I've been swimming/elliptical 4-5 days a week and feeling great. I do however think I should ask after delivery for Lovenox for 2-3 weeks to prevent post-delivery DVT. Anyone done this?

I am surprised you haven't been put on lovenox with your clotting history, but I guess your doctors are not considering you too high a risk for clotting if that's the case.

Remember that leg swelling can be a "normal" pregnancy symptom, so if you get bi-lateral swelling, it's probably just that and not anything clot related, and leg swelling doesn't usually show up until late in the pregnancy anyway, so I'm not surprised you haven't had any yet. Usually in the second trimester most women feel really good, so I'm glad that's your experience as well. Be sure to drink a lot of water as that helps to prevent pregnancy swelling. Ironically, I never swelled at all during pregnancy.

Regarding the Lovenox post partum, you really just need to talk to your doctor about how they feel about it, and express how you feel about it too. Women are at their height of hypercoagulability post partum, and most women at risk for clotting do take lovenox for some time after delivery, but most of them were also on it during their pregnancy as well. Since you're not taking it at all, then you just need to discuss with your doctor whether you should have it after delivery or not.

Well, after 28 weeks of no Lovenox, my OBGYN decided that today is the day to start. She wanted the subchorionic hematoma to resolve first. The swelling is minimal so far anyway and I am drinking a bunch of water daily. The only bad news is that I have to be induced and I really wanted to try and avoid extra drugs and forcing intense contractions. This will then be a planned birth :/

My husband is NOT the shot giving type and neither am I. I know it is the one that I have to take as it does not cross the placenta. I am so nervous to give myself a shot. Recommendations on where to shoot it? She said right under the skin. What was your dosage if your doc gave you the shots?

That's good your doc started the injections. I got clots in the first trimester of my first pregnancy and was on heparin (they didn't have lovenox yet back then). I got the shots in my thigh. They recommended belly injections but I didn't like that idea while pregnant. Lovenox is given based on weight. I don't know what the protocol is currently for prevention of dvts during pregnancy i.e. full dose versus a lower preventative dose. You will become accustomed to the shots after some practice. I watched Martha Stewarts daughter give herself shots on the Oprah show. She was taking fertility drugs. At that time I had been taking an injectable drug for osteoporosis. I just stuck the needle in my stomach but it was painful. After watching Marthas daughter do it, it became much easier and less painful. She put the tip of the needle in several places on her stomach until she came to a place that didn't hurt and then she injected herself. It works. Also, grabbing a bunch of skin and pinching it before you inject also works because you focus on the pinching and not the needle. If I can do it, you can do it. I went without flu shots for decades because I hated needles but now I am an old pro.

Well, we made it to 38 weeks. The baby is growing strong. They switched me to heparin twice per day to reduce the half-life of the drug and be able to control my thin blood when labor comes. My stomach sides look like someone beat me up but its not as bad as I thought it would be (giving myself shots). Due Feb 1.

Looks like they want to induce on Monday. I am going back in on thursday to double check what she says to do with the heparin injections (when to stop) and will post back for documentation. Here goes everything.
