Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It took 4 years, but I've finally made the mistake of taking two days doses on the same day. It was a truly bone-headed mistake. You know when you get so used to doing something it becomes so rote, that you don't even think about doing it anymore?
Well, so it is with my warfarin. I feed my dog, I take my dose, I leave the top of the pill box open for that day showing I'd taken my dose. Been workin' like a charm all this time.
Except last night, I was helping my husband clean the kitchen and I looked at my pill box and thought "Odd, I forgot to take my dose for Weds." I say to Chuck - "It IS Wednesday, isn't it"? And he says "All day long..."
So I popped Wednesday's dose and IMMEDIATELY realized it was only Tuesday. And, by rote, I had taken Tuesdays dose at the usual time.
I ran upstairs and puked my guts out and hoped that the dose was in there somewhere....then I ate a bag of broccoli. Then I went online and read you're not supposed to puke your guts out, because it could cause bleeding...duh!
So anyway, it's off to the doc today for an early INR-they already sound miffed with me, so I'm sure I'll get an earful from doc - all this the day before leaving for vacation. Anyway, this just goes to show ya - even a pro warfarin popper can make a mistake. Guess I'll have to use my pill box AND a calendar if I can't even remember what freakin' day it is!

One time I skipped a dose altogether. I just skipped it and when I tested 2 weeks later at the scheduled time. My INR was back in the sweet spot (2.5 for me).
I tested yesterday and my INR was 1.9. I guess I have been eating too healthy lately.
