Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.
Leg cramping / just stopped coumadin

I stopped coumadin on 2/18, @ and just this Friday, I noticed that my left, non-dvt leg was cramping in the arch of my foot and into the calf. To give a little background, I wa diagnosed with a large straddle pe and dvt extending from my right calf up into my thigh, primarily in my popliteal vein. I was hospitalized for 16 days, and then on coumadin for 1 year. I am currently on the low dose aspirin. I cant think of anything that would have caused that calf to cramp, ie dehydration, exercise. So far it doesnt seem to be swollen, like my right calf and ankle were with my original dvt. I have a follow up with my hema this Wed the 18th and they are going to do some follow up blood testing ie d dimer, etc. I have several questions I am seeking insight on:
1. Is the recurrence of dvt normally in the same leg affected in the first occurrence?
2. Could this be a sign of venous insufficiency?
3. Should I just wait for Wednesday or should I call and see if they can see me earlier or go to the er?
4. Does eating large amounts of greens or high vitamin k foods have any effect on my coagulation?
5. I hav3 been wearing compression stocking on my right calf. Should I consider using on both?

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
1. recurrence can happen in any limb. I mean, you're going to clot, you're going to clot.
2,. Sure, it could be venous insufficiency
3. Whether to go to the ER now or wait is your call. That's really just a judgement call we all have to make for ourselves now and then.
4. Vitamin K is only an issue when you're on warfarin. Think we've talked about that before but maybe it was someone else who asked that.
5. Don't see why it's a problem to wear the stockings on both legs.
You could go to the ER, or just call your doc tomorrow and see what he recommends. Kind of up to you.
I'm sure there's stats out there about re-clotting in the same limb vs a different limb, but ultimately, what does it matter for you a this moment? I mean, knowing that information doesn't change the fact you're having some cramping and you're not sure why.
Try to take it easy, enjoy your Sunday and see if you think you can wait until tomorrow. If you can't and it's worsening or just keeping you from being able to relax, then maybe consider going. Really, it's just such a judgement call. I would hate to tell you to not go and then something ends up being really wrong, or tell you to go and you blow 6 hours at the ER for nothing.
