Is it a DVT or not?

Hi, I am new to this group.  I am unsure if I have a DVT or not.


I have a painful, tender calf.  It started behind my knee and traveled to my calf about a month ago.  It feels like a charlie horse and I get twitching and numbness from time to time.


I had a D-dimer, ultrasound, lung x-ray and EKG with all normal results.


I am still very nervous and unclear as to what is going on.


Do you think that I need another test to rule out a DVT?

If the ultrasound on your leg was negative, and the d dimer was normal, you most likely don’t have a DVT.

What do the doctors think is causing the issue?

Also, you can always get a second opinion if it would give you peace of mind.

I got my first DVT in 2002. I had a pain in my calf that lasted for several weeks and I thought I had pulled a muscle. I took more and more ibuprofen every day but one day I was looking in a full length mirror and saw that my leg was a reddish purplish color and that it was swollen. I Googled my symptoms and was advised to go straight to the ER. I decided that I would wait until the next morning before going to the hospital. First I went to a local doctor who was just out of med school. She seemed to be unsure as to whether or not I had a DVT but she told me to make an appointment for a scan. I could not get an appointment until late in the afternoon - 7 hours after seeing the doctor. So, I get my leg scanned and the technician could not find the clot. She asked me why I thought I had a clot and I told her my symptoms (which were pretty obvious). She called in a more experienced tech and he found the clot which pretty much went from my ankle to my groin. Thank goodness for him. The technician who could not find the clot was visibly upset because she missed it. So, had I not insisted that I had a blood clot, I can only imagine what that outcome might have been.
I think you should get a second opinion as your symptoms are exactly like mine was.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I did just that and got a second opinion with a Doppler Ultrasound this time and it was negative. I feel better about it.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
