I went back to work part-time four days after I got out of the hospital. I worked may way up from four-hour days to ten-hour days over about six months. I had a few bad days in there where I had to leave early or take a day off, but overall that worked pretty well for me.

I was diagnosed on a Friday night with DVT/ PE, then spent the night in the hospital, went home the next evening. Returned to work on Monday and my GF said I was crazy, yeah, probably so.

With my PE/ DVT, I was out almost 2 weeks from the time I was discharged.

With my second DVT, which was in my arm this time, I was diagnosed at the hospital on a Friday night, and back to work the following Tuesday, and the only reason I didn't go back Monday was because I had a follow up appointment with my doctor. Hurt like a mother though. I type a lot at work, and that really was painful with the arm clot.

I was out two weeks (had mono at the same time), then two weeks part time, and finally back to regular hours but with modified conditions (more sitting than standing, etc). I had two DVTs in the same leg. Everybody's at their own pace!

I was off work 2.5 months, then part time for a couple of weeks, then full time. It was difficult most full-time days, but do-able. I'm at 15 months post-DVT/PE, and still, on some days, full time is almost too much. On those days I can still do the work, but I'm in bed within a few minutes of coming home. I'm an investigator, so there's about 60% sitting in an office and 40% out and about, on the go. I'm trying to find a way to do the job (which I love) 4 hours a day, but need the health insurance, so ... it's a bit of a snag. It still amazes me how different our experiences can be: some return to work immediately, some take a lot more time.
