hi hattie i got my dvt in oct 09 calf to groin femor vien and in may12 ,2010 i when to vegas 5 hr flight i didd all that and wore my stocking and a stocking on non dvt leg just to be safe but i would check with ur doc fisrt everyone case is diffrent my doc said i was good to flight just make sure u move ur legs alot

Have chronic DVTs in my right leg. First one is from 2005 and second is from 2009. Both are still there. I fly several times a year and have had no problems on or off warfarin. I am more careful now with getting up to walk, moving my feet when I'm in my seat, and wearing my stockings. I would think you would be fine.

hello ive just flown for the 1st time ,got checked on the monday was 2.5 so to told me to inject before i went on the tuesday as need to be 3-4 wore stockings and walked about a bit drank water,and was fine that was a 2hr 30 min flight

just enjoy your trip,i have been doing long flights to florida long before i had my first dvt and pe in august 2006,i am now on lifelong warfarin but always follow the guidelines,drink plenty of water,have a walk about every 30 mins and most of all wear some flight socks ,you will be fine and enjoy your trip

I agree with everyone else, wear your stockings and drink plenty of water. I too was scared to fly this past summer but everything was just fine. I brought along exercise bands and worked my legs the whole flight. My nervous energy had to do something, ha. Congrats on your sons wedding!!

I flew to London 2 months after my dvt,( knee to groin left leg, suspect May Thurner!) Doctor suggested compression stockings on both legs for flying. No adverse affects but it is a short flight too, only an hour from Dublin.

Husband had DVT and PE 75 days ago and we are flying first week of December for the first time since this event. Dr. gives his full blessing to do so. Hydration, stockings and moving are the recommendations. Still on coumadin and will remain on it until January. DVT and PE were a direct impact from total knee replacement.

I had a DVT/PE in January, '09. Groin to ankle. I live in Ohio. Flew to Florida for a cruise in Feb '09, Seattle in Mar '09 for a get-together with friends, Chicago for a funeral in May '09, Las Vegas in Aug '09 for a wedding, Alaska for a tour in Sep '09, California in Feb '10 for a wedding, and the Mediterranean in May '10. It was an unusual year and a half travel-wise for me, and more than a bit ironic that it all occurred after my DVT. My doctors all advised to get up every hour & walk for 5 minutes, stretch my legs/feet frequently while sitting, avoid alcohol (dehydtrates), drink lots of water. No one advised me not to fly. No further problems, knock wood. So it can be done. Another hint: try and get a bulkhead seat if you can, the additional legroom really helps.

Oh, and going on the cruise in Feb '09, a month or so after my DVT, was actually a really great thing. I was so stressed out from the DVT/PE that I came down with a case of shingles. But the cruise relaxed me so much that it ended up being only a mild case. I really lucked out on that.
