Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Support Group
Deep-vein thrombosis, also known as deep-venous thrombosis or DVT, is the formation of a blood clot ("thrombus") in a deep vein. It can be caused by something preventing blood from circulating or clotting normally. Join the support group if you are coping with DVT and find others who are going through the same challenges.

It's been 18 week since my bilateral pulmonary embolism cause by DVT in my right leg. I walk up to 12 miles a week, spin class 1 to 2 times a week, take 7.5mg warfarin...and well...my friend stops by and says...when are you going to ride on my Harley with me?...I said... right now! Ran in the house, put on jeans, boots, and donned a helmet and off we went. I hadn't been on the back of a bike for 30 years. It was a beautiful sunny SoCal day as we were riding through the canyons and hillsides when all of a sudden I have a cramp in my right leg, I want to stretch it out when I think maybe its my blood clot and then I think Oh $ht! I have blood clots, OMG I'm on blood thinners...we wreck and I'm done, I'll bleed out before someone could help me...I tell my friend and he immediately turned around and brought me home...it was fun whilst it lasted and there is always next year when I am off the warfarin. It was nice to feel normal for the first time since the 'traumatic hospital incident'...if even for just 10 minutes, Thanks Kevin...

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
Stay young, and enjoy your life!
Sorry,
I don't mean to be hard on you, but we all do that, we stop living for our condition and actually it's not because of our condition, it's because of the meds...
We give up something or another thinking "if I crash, hit, scratch, cut myself I'm done". NOT TRUE!!!! I'm a lifer on anticoags and have cut myself many times since 2007(my first clot) and HAD given up riding mountain bike, because, like you and many others, I was afraid of the unknown... AND at that point I was getting off the anticoag the following year. Fast track to 2009, I'm off the meds and the following year I clot AGAIN and you know the rules, second clot you are a lifer.
What I'm saying is, to you this time, don't do like I did and stop doing stuff you enjoy because of these medications. Don't let the meds dictate your life. You only have one life, live it at it's fullest.
Yes I hear the med association(Dr and nurses...) in the background, "don't do it, it's absurd, you'll be sorry".
It's your life, you decide...
I did,and off I go for another glorious mountain bike ride in the woods.
I agree with temar and dero, unless you are a chain saw juggling enthusiast or in the sword swallowing profession, try not to let being on anticoagulants dictate simple pleasures. There are risks to being on the medication, no doubt, but you can also get in a serious car wreck and get hit by a bus too. Doesn't mean you stop driving or crossing the street because you're on anticoagulants. Be mindful, be prepared, be sensible, but also let your freak flag fly a bit too.
One other thing and I don't mean to be morbid, but just to offer some perspective... whether you're on anticoagulants or not, if you got seriously injured in a motorcycle wreck, you'd probably be screwed regardless. I mean there are some things that would harm anyone.
Next year, next month, next week, tomorrow... none of this is promised to any of us. So I'm glad you did it. And I hope you continue to get your balance back and find joy in these things. They're important.
There are tradeoffs every day. I'm more conservative than some, but get out there and find your comfort zone. Then push it once in a while. :)
It's the way to be otherwise we crawl into our shell and what kind of life is that!
We can always worry...but still need to live life to the fullest!!
Kudos to you!!
