Dehydration and blood clot

I was diagnosed with DVT and PE for unknown reasons. A month Before that I remember that I had a heavy vodka session that I woke up at night very thirsty.
My question, can dehydration alone cause blood to clot even though Im active?

The only insight I have to contribute here is that alcohol both thins your blood, but also slows down its flow... You should probably have some genetic bloodwork done on you to search for predispositions to clotting.

I doubt alcohol alone was the sole cause. Hope you're healing well!

Dehydration may possibly be a factor but I doubt the sole cause. Could have been a combination of things going on in your body so hard to know sometimes.

Have to agree with the other posters. It could have played a part, but I doubt it was the only cause.

Have you been checked for clotting disorders?

Yes I was checked for clotting disorder and came negative.

I was reading some info on a couple other forums for endurance athletes, and there were a surprising number of runners, cyclists, etc that have been dx with dvt and pe. Most everyone was saying that their docs felt that dehydration and also a lower resting heart rate were the main factors in their clotting

Me too think that dehydration was the main factor plus I was in a highly stressful circumstances for a month.

I have not much add to previous comments. Prolonged dehydration can cause DVT. Following the big Earthquake in Japan (11th of March 2011) the incidence of DVT was about 200 times greater han the usual incidence in Japan, and this was attributed as a result of prolonged dehydration due to the delay in supplying drinking water, vomiting, and diarrhea. However as others, I would seriously doubt that a one night drinking session is a risk factor for a DVT.

Prolonged dehydration can be a contributing factor. I doubt a single or even few nights of drinking would have singularly caused a clot.

As far as athletes, there are are a number of combined factors working against them but no studies to date have deteremined if they are at any greater risk than any other patient:

As others mentions, I tend to think there may be another associated risk factors which caused the clot

As far as the incident in Japan, dehydration was longer than a few days. Prolonged standing (those helping), immobilization, dehydration, stress and I'm sure other risk factors contributed to the rise in incident rates.

    We all have 24 hours in a day.  How we spend these hours is important.  Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do.  Gonna have to work on that.Your turn.  Tell me another truth.
