It does not hurt to wear it on both legs. I know a few people who wear it on both. I prefer the one leg, just because its very discomforting

I've done it both ways. Did a long car trip this weekend and wore them on both legs. Kind of annoying, but better safe than sorry!

I'm a one leg man myself! My other leg is fine and has no problems, whereas I have to keep my dvt leg elevated at all times and it needs the full length stocking every day, though it can be bliss removing it at night if I have had a tough day :)

I used to do only one leg until I clotted in my other leg too.....I don't actually need thigh highs on both legs, but I would feel even more ridiculous if I wore thigh high on one side and knee high on the other. Like - how strange do I want to look??

I've done the 'odd legs' thing - once with a thigh high on my left, knee-high on my right, then, when I was wearing different sizes on 'good' & bad legs, they ordered me black for the better-behaved leg and beige for the larger one =/
Needless to say, I wore jeans a lot =)

I wear my compression stocking on my DVT leg only. I used to wear 15-20 compression & it helped but for the record anyone with DVT depending on how severe should get proper compression. I changed my compression to 20-30 & feel so much better. 15 more months of wearing them, then thereafter when traveling and or needed.

I was given a script for 10-15, got a 15-20, and my Mom's donation of 20-30 knee high actually keeps the swelling out of the ankle and calf. Problem is now the knee is swelling to the point of *really* weird walking! : )

If your knee is swelling to that point, you should probably be wearing thigh-highs. I have never worn knee-highs just because both of my DVTs are right behind the knee and that sounds super uncomfortable to me.

I've only tried the knee highs to see if the swelling would actully GO AWAY! LOL! Frustration is ensuing due to the docs response of "swelling happens" "learn to deal" attitude. I wanted to have some "proof," if you will, that the swelling can be controlled with a higher compression.

Ah, yes, that makes sense. Your doc sounds a little weird in not wanting to be a bit more proactive with this prevention.

Honestly, you might be able to pick up a thigh-high on a trip to Walgreens or CVS, but of course it wouldn't be properly fitted. That's where I got my first pair.

I was fitted at a family pharmacy that measured my calf and asked my height. The thigh high 15-20 was a little too high if you know what I mean.

Are there other measurements they do to measure you for a correct fitting?

My second bout of DVT left the deep veins in both legs and thighs partially occluded (the left worse than the right). I seem to be able to get away with wearing knee high pressure socks on both legs. Every now and then I need to slip on the thigh high and elevate my legs because the back on my knees get uncomfortable (minor swelling). I am fortunate in that I can usually get away without wearing the pressure socks for a few hours which allows me to mow the lawn in shorts without having to break any fashion laws.

I'm a one legger. My DVT was from my hip to my ankle in the left leg and I was prescribed a knee high 30-40 compression which seems rather high to me for a non dvt leg. Personally I've been testing the waters of not wearing it on weekends, so far no issues other than a small spot of pain just above my stocking when I put it back on come Mondays.
Out of curiosity, has anyone started with a high compression and switched to a lower as the healing goes on? I'm coming up on 6 months and am just wondering what to expect as far as treatment after warfarin (fingers crossed)
