Hi- I was diagnosed with a dvt and pe in the spring. Referred to a hematologist now that I’m off the thinners to have the blood tests run to see if I have any clotting disorders. He only ordered factor II and factor V which both came back negative. However, I thought there were others (protein c and s deficiencies, for example). I am going to ask him also, but does anyone know why he would only order those two? Thanks!

Sometimes the testing protocol is geared differently depending on your insurance coverage. I was looking one day online at some test requisitions that a particular laboratory gave you the option to download and some tests specifically could not be ordered if the patient had a particular insurance. Maybe this is one reason- could maybe be other reason not sure.I know normally they really run a lot of tests to rule out clotting disorders and genetic disorders. Call them- the lab or your doctor- and specifically ask him. Hope your comfortable enough in doing so - good luck with everything!! : )

Thank you both! You were both correct- it is his testing protocol. He orders those two first since they require insurance approval and are the most common and now he is running the others. Thanks again!
