Today I went to a funeral. The mother of one of my students died Wednesday due to a DVT that travelled to her lungs causing a massive pulmonary embolism. Trying to save her life, doctors used that medicine process - which I think is called fibrinolysis - to make the blood thin immediately and to break down the clots. She had internal bleedings and went into coma, died two days later. She was 38 and had four children, the older one is 20, the younger 12. This mother of four have had this DVT for the past two months! She noticed something in her leg and went to her primary doctor. She was misdiagnosed more than once. Finally, when the doctor discovered what her problem was, he decided to wait to start the treatment because she had a surgery to her back scheduled to a week later. However, the problem on her back was not life-threatening as DVT is! But her doctor decided that she should have the surgery done and then start the treatment with blood thinners. She died the day she entered the hospital. The family is suing the doctor now for deciding to wait. How can a doctor not be aware of the danger a DVT poses to a persons life? Those kids will never hug their mother again! That husband lost his companion.
Im so sad with all of this. Im being treated for a DVT since August. I was today at the funeral and I couldnt stop myself from thinking how lucky I am. But devastated with what happened to this woman that I met, with whom I talked last week because she phoned me saying that she would have a minor surgery so her daughter would miss school one afternoon to be with her. My student will never see her again.
Its so sad that there are so many doctors who dont know how serious a DVT is.
Sorry for the long text, Im still in shock. Guess I feel the need to get this off my chest with people who understand.

I really dont know how doctors dont take this as serious as they should... Me myself wasnt diagnosed right,... I ended up in the hospital when my lungs couldnt take it anymore and I fainted almost...
I hope they will be able to go on somehow....
My brother's friends wife died from a PE last year. She was upstairs in her bathroom and her husband was down stairs. He heard a noise and ran upstairs to see what was going on and she was dead in the bathroom , like that, no warning, no symptoms she had prior. Just well one minute and gone the next. Crazy.
I'm just so sorry for everyone in this scenario.
