Has anyone had to deal with a huge clot that was blocking almost the entire vein. That is what they told me, and I cannot imagine it being dissolved or whatever without surgery.
I need to hear someone tell me they are okay without surgery.
I am making myself nuts with this whole thing.

Hi Susan,
I have a massive clot from ankle to IVC filter in my left leg. It was horrific at first becuase my leg swelled so severely. It's been several months now and I've had a chance to accept it mentally. also the stocking has brought my leg to almost normal size and I'm confident that my body has developed those collateral veins to help venous return. Overall I'm a lot less terrified than I was...and I was terrifed. I'm a warfarin life and that's ok.

I am still adjusting, and I finally got an appointment with my doctor for Tues. Have had no GI upset, just waiting till I take my pill tonight to see if anything happens. If not, then I have to see what is causing this GI upset. I never know when it will hit.
My doctor never mentioned the compression stockings to me either, and I am wondering if I should just go get them. I will ask her tomorrow about that too.

I have no idea what is going on now. I saw my doctor yesterday, and have felt good for 5 days now with no change in my Warfarin dose etc. She was pleased with my PT results, and told to stay on my present dose of Warfarin. I do have to go for a Gallbladder Ultrasound just to be sure its not a Gallbladder issue that caused the attacks I had. Guess its good to just check everything out.
I need to walk more than I do, but I do not want to walk by myself.
Trying to get a friend to do daily walks with me. My husband is on night shift, and then sleeps during the day, so he does not feel like taking walks with this shift he is on. Just glad I am feeling okay right now.

My clot is halfway up my calf to halfway up my thigh, so I'm not sure if that is considered huge or not, but the doctor said the coumadin should dissolve it within a few months.

That sounds big enough to me. I was told 6 months at least to maybe a year of the Warfarin, and that sometimes they organize themselves which basically is that they turn into scar tissue someone told me but that you will not have to worry about it moving anywhere else. There is so much to learn about a DVT.

I was diagnosed with DVT in May of 08. I had a total femoral blockage from groin to ankle in both legs. I never had surgery only put on heparin for 2 days and then Lovenox for a year. I am almost at my 2 yr anticoagulant free point and have never had anymore issues with DVT (knock on wood). I also thought I was suffering from PTS, but turns out I wasn't. Dr just said my veins will be forever week and will have bad circulation. I only have 2 spots with remaining hardened clot, one is in my groin of my right leg and the other is behind my knee in the left leg. I was told this is usually not the case though. Most people scar a lot more when having such a blockage. Good Luck to you and welcome to the wonderful group of DVT survivors. :)
