Is life really supposed to be fabulous most of the time? That any time you cry or get angry for longer that five minutes, you have a disease? Like something must be wrong with your brain and you need a pill/treatment? I'm not saying we don't need help sometimes, but we don't need it because something about us is defective.
You know, Elizabeth Smart said something really poignant. She said, "It's like a beautiful vase that got broken. Maybe you didn't mean for it to get smashed, but it's still broken."
It's like the medical profession is blaming the vase for getting shattered. I think that's a load of crap. We spend a lot of time trying to figure out who and what we are. Where we fit in this world. When something traumatic happens, it's like we don't know how to integrate that into ourselves. This isn't just 5/10 percent of the population, this is everyone! No one is impervious to a severe psychological assault. No one!
How is it even possible to love someone, with all that you are, and not feel shattered if they die?
