I dont think you are obese though, Arline. You said you were only about 25 pounds overweight. That is not obese... no where near it. So, all I am saying is that you cannot really understand what it is like to be obese unless you have been in the shoes of an obese person. If you see people in the hospital eating burgers and fries and pastries every day, they are not lower class. I certainly couldnt afford to eat like that. If you can pass by the clothes in a large sized store, you are not that big. Being obese, it is not a matter of self esteem in wearing those clothes.. it is that nothing else fits. You take what fits, not what you like. If obese people needed physiotherapy, it wouldnt be for being overweight, it would be to learn how to handle people who arent overweight and their criticisms of them.
I wont buy clothes in Lane Bryant because their fabrics, styles and patterns are inferior as far as I'm concerned, Yes, I need big sizes and go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx who carry the better larger sizes but you cant find them readily, Loehmans used to carry designer large sizes at 1/2 the price of department stores but now they dont carry large sizes anymore, Why I asked - because we don't have as much call for them as we used to, They are in department stores but way beyond my budget. I wear a 1X sometimes a 2X because I don't like tight fitting sweaters. I've been known to buy something I liked in a Large or Extra Large and steam it till it got bigger. Pants I wear a regular large.
My mother was a coat and suit model before she got married and every day she had fruit and cottage cheese for lunch, She refused to gain weight. She started gaining after she had a hysterectomy and then she skipped lunch. She was a role model I could not live up to. I took after my father - he looked at food and gained weight.
As far as going for physiotherapy, people go to try and find out why they are eating themselves into oblivion (except those with thyroid problems which I had for years when I was young)
IF that is the case no amount of talking will get you to see the point.
Also I see nowhere in your post any attempt at apology - but I do see you trying to justify what you did post.
I for one do not have low self esteem, never have, as an actor (from the age of 5 years old) that is something that you really can't afford to have. I had to give it up when I got married over 30 years ago but I am still that person - and love to stand out in a crowd - no matter weight I happen to be at the time.
Post #14 has an apology I think
Of course you have never heard of those sizes. You are not obese and dont know what it is like to be obese
I do wear sleeveless tops and shorts - not tight fitting but that is a comfort thing not a size thing.
I do not get the sleeves and long pants comment - and don't bother I really am not all that fussed about it. Again I wear them too when the weather is right for them.
IF I want to get comments about my size and what I wear and/or be called a pig (which is what you inferred with your "eat and eat and eat" comment) I will go and find someone to torment and hurt me with them.
I know that you probably just don't get this but I came here to DS for support and help, to find a place where I don't have to watch every word that comes out of my mouth about what I eat, what I wear, what I do in my life in case someone here gives me grief about it.
Sorry but I am really tired of your judgement of others.
Walk in my shoes. Broke's, Goldi's - just about anyone on this group and you might just understand and have some compassion and empathy - maybe even sympathy for others instead of judging everyone ALL the time.
BTW if I were one of those people in the hospital where you go and you asked me about the burger and fries I was eating I would probably tell you the same thing they do - It is what you want to hear as it justifies your perception about people who are large.
Goldi here it is cheaper to buy the burgers and the fries than healthy food - sadly. A full meal $5 and a healthy one is at least double that.
