Dealing with Diabetes2 and remembering Goldi Community Group
A support group for individuals with Type2 diabetes. Encouragement, empathy, advice, and personal experiences from members dealing with the illness. A friendly environment with compassion and support as our main objective.
I have emailed the article to myself and my DH and we will go over it together later.
Thank you lost.......
We know that low-fat foods mean more sugar and more sugar more weight, We know potatoes are healthy for its nutrients but we also know that starchy foods put weight on, If someone isn't aware of that they should be because TV shows and news articles keep expounding on this fact. I still maintain a majority of people who are obese is because they eat and they eat and they eat - with no regard to fat/sugar ratio. I know I did that before I was diagnosed. Although I was overweight I was never considered obese. And when I was growin up there was no McDonalds etc, People are aware and some just don't want to pay attention because they don't care. I may get flack for what I'm going to say now but I'm going to say it anyway. You will find most (not all) obese people are lower class. You hardly ever see a rich person obese. They think too much about how they look.
Well I heard a new one now also, that is you just don't eat sugar you will drop weight and you won't get so many wrinkles. I have to say that in my life I was never heavy and now I have put on a few to many pounds this last 7 months. I know it's cause one I am not working out at the pool like I usually do since I can't walk with the bad hip!
Anmd two I know I have been eating everything and then some. So yes I agree that if your heavy it's usually your own fault. But I also know these couple pounds are dam hard to get rid of. And I can see where a person wanting to drop 50-60 pounds thinks it is impossible. It is very hard for me and I am not sure if it is bcause of no exercise or walking ??? I haven't gained any since I started to watch it but nor have I lost even a rotten pound. YET!!
NEVER THOUGHT OF THE WORD 'DARLING' - AT LEAST I GOT THE HUSBAND PART RIGHT. NEVER SAW THAT BEFORE.
YES, I CAN UNDERSTAND WEIGHING MORE THAN 50 POUNDS THAN YOU SHOULD AND GIVE UP. BUT THESE PEOPLE DONT JUST GIVE UP, THEY GAIN MORE. AT LEAST YOU KNEW BETTER AND STARTED WATCHING WHAT YOU WERE EATING, I THINK A MEDICAL DOCTOR IS NOT THE ANSWER FOR THE OBESE UNLESS THEY'RE PLANNING ON GBS. I THINK A SUPPORT GROUP OR PSYCHOTHERAPY MAY BE THE ANSWER.
I read it in the early hours (DS time) and was so mad and angry that I didn't trust myself to comment on this at all. Now that I have had a night's sleep and have calmed down I will add my comments.
Lower class? I am so far from that - and have been all my life. You don't know me at all and as you say you can't/won't make friends on the internet then you probably never will.
I do NOT overeat - although I used to be a lover of sweet things, they were in moderation and even when I don't eat them I still only have to look at anything with more calories than water and I put on weight.
Has always been the case. And always will be.
It is all metabolism and genes. My whole family on both sides are big to obese, apart from my siblings (who were lucky enough to inherit their father's genes for weight and metabolism) whom I have always envied. Can eat what they want and stay slim. Mum and I would sit and look at it and the pounds were pile on------------- I kid you know, and those of you are in that category know what I am talking about, right?
And like Margaret says how dare you judge us or anyone else. That is mean and cruel and until you have walked in our shoes - say nothing unless you can say something nice. DO NOT JUDGE!!!!!!!!
I am with her too - any time now that you say something that is not nice I will no longer hold back either.
I was having a really bad day when I read this and would have really been depressed if it had not been for some really good friends in another group. Then I came here and expected to have another supportive place and those mean and nasty posts get thrown in my face. So thanks a lot for undoing all the good work my friends had done and making me feel like shit.
And no I will not go into details as to why as I really don't think you would care.
Do me a favour please........................ before you post anything like this in the future please try and think how you might just be hurting someone.
This is a support group and site and all you have managed to do is upset people and hurt them and make them feel really bad, not to mention angry.
You have a lot of good to offer, information etc, and I have found some of it very interesting and helpful but when you continually disagree with someone, everyone, just because it it is NOT what YOU do - when you sit in judgement of someone because they are not a size 10-12 (sorry not sure of your sizes there - but that is a slim person but not skin and bones) and possibly also because of someone's colour, race, creed etc well that is not right.
I hope that you read what we are saying Arline because this is not the way to treat others.
PS: Margaret you are right. I have been biting my tongue for a long time now and it is good to say something and know that I am not alone in doing so. Good for you and thanks.
I am a large size and search high and low for clothes that look like normal sized people wear.
If I insulted anyone it wasn't meant that way. What I had to say has been said to me many times in previous years and my answer to them was "you're right". I'm hiding behind my weight to keep people away,
