Yes, I worry about it because my first surgery last summer went perfect no complications, no pain, nothing. It was a dream from what I expected. Since then I have seem people have numerous problems so of course I worry now and now I am alone so I think the worst. Anything has to be better then limping around with a walker.
That is something I took for granted, walking..Just to get a drink or water a plant..it is a rotal pain in the butt. We shall see.
And yes I think it elective surgery that seems to be a problem in Canada from what they say. That is the Gov though, it is free but they do it their way or they come to the states and get it done faster. Even on the helthboards the people from Canada complain about waiting months just to get an appt. It's strange how things work sometimes.
But yes I will be happy to get through it and done with it I hope!!

Well, dont worry about what other people think or say. At least you know what happened to you before because you already had one hip done. Just go by what happened to YOU and how YOU felt. You cant go by what other people say at all, because other people are not the same as you.

I dont know about surgery being a problem in Canada. I have never had a problem waiting and none of my family or friends that have gone for surgery have had to wait either. I can only go by my personal experiences and I havent had any wait times to speak of for anything. In fact, one of my girlfriends is going for gastric by pass and she has a four month wait. If that is considered a long wait, then yes, you do have to wait a couple of months here.

Hi, In the uk the witing list for hip replacents is about 3-6 months, if you are still mobile.My next door neibour is 94 and live's alone he had a fall and did not tell anyone, but after a week or so the pain was unbearable. When he was taken to hospital and x rayed it was foung to be fractured He had a hip repair a few days later he is now home and walks ok with 2 sticks
I hope you get it sorted soon Sunnerian I know not being able to move without pain brings one's spirits down and is so frustrating.

Thank you lost. That is what they say usually happens to older people, they fall and don't say anything cause they hate the hospital. Then maybe a few months later they fall again and the hip breaks or something that was already done the first time and gets worse.
But gee, 94 that is an amazing story. Some people are so strong and yes I agree pain can really take a person down with time.

Jo, 4 months is long, not bad but that is not the norm there. Were talking elective not your mitral valve heart operation. That was life or death,Not elective as said above. Look your doc wouldn't even see you when you just got out of the hospital. Do you remember that? It was like wed and you had to wait till Monday to even talk to him about your fever, after going through septic shock. I remember getting upset over it. You may not be aware of it but obviously it goes on a lot.
Just read the healthboards and you will see how many complain about having to wait. Done ok!
And no it isn't just what other people say about having hips done. I write on a surgery board for hips and knees. They are like family and a wonderful board to have support on. So many have problems young and old that you can't help from being scared. Some are worse then before as far as more pain or swelling, infections, hips squeaking, rattling.

Vancouver is in British Columbia, which is the next province over from us. If you look out our bedroom window, you can see the rockies , Sunnie. To get right up into them would be about an hours drive. Yes, I was born in Canada..in Ontario. I moved here about 15 years ago. I sure do miss Ontario though. I am of English descent.. and Irish and Swedish.

Well we haven't had cold in so long here it is great. A whole week it is getting colder even what a blessing!! I love cold to a point, not Chicago cold or Canada cold but enough to put a sweater on and keep it on all day here! usually by 10 the sun is making you peel everything off so this is wonderful to be cold all day long! WhooHoo I need a fireplace now!

I would love to test my blood sugar 3-4 times a day if the numbers are fantastic and more if needed, but my doc says once is enough and I have serious problems about how much the companies charge since this is saying that if you have insurance and can't afford more, then you have to put your health on hold. I have found my A1C goes better and lower when I check my blood sugar about 3-4 times a day and more if needed and so I could watch how this and that affects my blood sugar which is my favorite way. I would love to have the companies make money with better prices and not just overcharging for testing equipment. I would think that you could get 100 test strips and the part to cut yourself would cost only $40 and this is the cash price which would not be paid with insurance and if you want me to hold breath, not me. The good news is I have had plenty of supplies since my sister has provided me with plenty of them and so this helps me to tests as often as I need to despite my doctors foolishness.

Our summer, is like your winter Sunny lol.. Yes, it IS beautiful to look out and see the mountains, but it is even prettier to drive into them and up and around them or go horseback riding in them. It is so nice in the summer when it is so hot to drive into the mountains where it is so cool and refreshing.

I HAVE to test three or four times a day.. at least., Vernon and if I didnt have the plan I have now, I would be paying full price for the test strips and that is just impossible.

I am glad you have the plan which provides this for you, but I am getting it checked when I have it checked at my friend Rays apartment since I only check it only once a day for the time being. There are many times I have forgotten to test. but when I do remember to, I check it 3-4 times if it is not too high or low.

You always have such good numbers and you are not on insulin, Vernon, so that is probably why it is alright for you to test only once a day. Do you check at different times, after eating different things, or do you test at the same time every day? I sure wish I only had to test once a day. I am waiting for that day <G>

Vernon, you should pretty much know what spikes your sugars by now with the foods you eat. Before they had strips they only used the A1C test and that is how people checked. Better to check dailey but if you can't afford it you can't! Just stay away from sugar and high carb foods and you will be ok hopefully.
Jo, When we lived in Colorado, we were 15 min from the mountains and it was beautiful to just be in the middle of them so fast.

Yes, Sunny.. it IS beautiful. On a clear day, you can even see the tips of them, it seems. It is SO beautiful in the summer though and so cool. I love the horse back riding up there too.. with all the paths and beautiful scenery. Keith loves to fish up there. He says the fish are so much cleaner. There is snow on top of the mountains until JULY!! Then it all runs off and you can swim in the lakes or rivers in the mountains, but it is really COLD! LOL

I wasnt diabetic that long ago, since I have always used the strips. I have heard they just used the A1C and there was also another way... I cant remember now what it was though.. sure not as easy as the strips though.

I haven't been diabetic that long either but they talk about it all the time how that was the only way people were tested. People complaining about strips being so expensieve and going back to A1C only!!

That was one reason we didn't stay in Colorado the water was to darn cold even in the summer. No good if you can't go in it for me!! So we went to Arizona where there was none!!!!ROTFL!!!! Except in our pool!

LOL.. You know exactly what I mean then. It is really dry here with just one river. I am used to tons of rivers and lakes. The mountains are so beautiful, but yes, the water is cold.. but if you wait until September, then the water is so refreshing.

You can call it refreshing I call it cold!
Dry is good for foods but it sure is hard on the skin,eyes, and nose!!
