IP Banning instead of banning user name
BipolarPrincess
I am sure that someone has already suggested this but in case
they haven't I will. I think that if you start monitoring people's IP addresses and if they get out of hand and need to be perma banned
you can ban the IP address so the offender won't be able to come back.
I think it's a good idea. I am sure there are other's out there who also
think this would be a good idea as well. That would keep the repeat
offenders away from DS if they ban the IP address and not the user.
What do you all think about this?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

If someone has a static IP address - is not computer savvy and does not know how to change their IP - I can see it working but if it is dynamic (changes every time) it is almost impossible to identify a person through their IP address. It could weed out a few but not many.
So ban me one minute, I'm back the next. I cannot stress this enough, it is useless against dynamic IPs and one of BPs worst trolls is in the UK.
Apart from that..think about it, for those who are on fixed IP addresses..DS will know who you are. It will clear a number of the communities in minutes because a lot of people won't want anyone knowing who they are. And do you absolutely trust everyone in DS tech? And then if it's being monitored presumably it can be hacked.
All the rape victims, PSTD people, abuse survivors and everyone else are an absolute target and hackers/preditors would be able to get all their details.
I've said before this won't work and will cause a huge reaction. The number of threads about "OMG I can google my userID!!" will multiply a thousand fold, plus this time the concern will be legitimate.
Plus your biggest BP troll will still be there.
They would have to block a chunk or an entire "block of ip" addresses meaning 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.250 (alot more though) In order to stop someone from any given specific IP range.
So yeah the IP thing...prolly not a good thing for DS. Cause what if someone else from that IP range was a legit person wanting or needing support from DS? Guess what....wouldn't work cause that "block" of addresses are blocked...........I think I used the word "block" too much lol

He's gone now, but I know for a fact he has many other profiles, and wondered if they could block his IP, as he's hurt SEVERAL here. I guess we just have to keep a close eye and be very careful? Report what we can...that is useful.
