So they only do scheduled maintenance every few months? Or have they done it more regularly & just not mentioned it?

I do intimately not know their maintenance schedule. Some levels of maintenance can be done with the system 'up' and other levels require shutting down things like log in servers. The 'shut down system' levels may be done AS NEEDED or on a regular calendar schedule .. I have a feeling it is done on an 'as needed' schedule.

just a comment .. defrag would only be necessary for Windows file system drives (if any) .. 'Nix file systems defrag as they run .. it is not necessary to schedule a defrag..

I love not having to do the defrag now but I still do a regular disc clean.

Aren't you running Windows, Hath?? Most Windows systems need a defrag occasionally. It's Unix-like systems that (essentially) don't need it.

Yes I am running window 7 and I have it set for a scheduled defrag every week - 9pm on Wednesdays.
So much easier than the old way of having to remember to do it and then sitting here while the computer went through the process and stop and start and them time out. Then go back and start again.
Over and over and over.

Now it just sits and does it in the background and I never even see it happening any more.
