I agree with you bob. However DS doesn't because it's how the make a good portion of their revenue.
There is an answer: Use an ad blocker of some sort. I use mozilla firefox as my browser and it has an add-on called adblock plus. Its free and easily installed. You have to subscribe to an adblock service, also free, to make it work.
Not only does it block all ads except those from DS itself, it also blocks all of the ones that show up on the meebo (chat) bar!
BTW I have no money so am not able to buy anything in any case.
Especially from the US.
One thing I have noticed is that the ads are smart little cookies:) If I google sumptin or talk about a subject a lot......pretty soon an ad will show up related to that.
Like right now....if I say DOG DOG DOG....someone in my travels, I'm gonna see a DOG DOG DOG ad.............makes me wonder if we all see the same ad, or just ads tuned to us?????? LOL
Yes, I am grateful also for the fact that we can use it for free. But it also means we have to put up with some inconveniences for sure.
Did not know about the prevention of suicides. Don't know how you know that but I have to take your word for it.
But there are some people who also use DS for their own agenda and I dislike them a lot more than the ads on the site. They are really annoying. I guess we have to take the good with the bad.
The ads were driving me mad! They popped up all by themselves and filled up a full 3rd of my screen. Some lady shooting at me in the face!
NICE, considering I've been shot at in real life before.
Really made me very triggered and angry.
I noticed in the new DS settings the other day (finally) that you can turn off your Chat altogether, that took care of the invasive ads (for now.)
This is the download link for adblock plus (ABP).

Be sure you sign up for a subscription (I use Rick's Easy List). They are free and if you don't sign up for one, it won't work. The way you know if you're signed up is that once you have downloaded ABP, you will see a stop sign that says ABP in the upper right corner of your mozilla tool bar. Click on the down arrow and then choose preferences. You will see "filter subscription" - if there's nothing there, you need to choose one.
So stuck- deal with the PIA pop ups or lose chat... wish Meebo would change this
