Hi, all,

My GI prescribed me to be on 9mg/day of Uceris for my current flare. Has anyone taken this med? If so, how was your experience...did you notice side effects?

I'm a really anxious person when it comes to new meds. I've heard the side effects are minimal with uceris, but I'm still anxious. My doc told me to take the first dose with dinner (since I didn't get the uceris until the afternoon), then start regular therapy in the morning with breakfast.

My UC was diagnosed as steroid dependent. Two years of Prednisone side effects were horrible. When I switched to Uceris some steroid side effects were still present but greatly reduced. Uceris is quite expensive compared to prednisone but was worth it for me. I have since switched to a generic, budesonide and it is working for me and a bit cheaper.

That's good to hear, Dalton. I see my GI tomorrow and hopefully he says I can get off the Uceris. I've been taking it only since last Wednesday (the 15th)...do you think I will have to taper if I've been on it for only a week?

One of my GI docs said I didn't need to taper from Uceris and my new GI doc had me taper off. It would be best to check with your doctor.

I was taking uceris for about a year. It was a welcome relief from all of the prednisone side effects. The mfg has an assistance program that brought the cost down to $25/month for me.
