Has anyone been on Uceris for a steroid? Did you have better results with it or does prednisone work better? I have been using Uceris since June and really am not seeing any improvement. Granted I have had an unusual amount of stress in my life, but it seems with the meds I should at least see mild improvement. I am thinking about requesting to be on prednisone again this time but I hate the side effects. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

When I was on steroids I was only on prednisone.

If you are under a lot of stress it could be decreasing the effectiveness of your medicine. However, since you are not seeing much improvement since June I would suggest calling your GI and just talking to them about what is going on. Talk to them about what your symptoms still are vs what they were in June, what kind of stress you are under, and then ask them if they still think the Uceris is the best choice of steroid for you right now or if they think pred would be better right now. If they suggest prednisone again then talk to them about the side effects you get and ask if they have any suggestions that could minimize those effects.

Hope you start to feel better soon. If there is anyway for you to decrease your stress that would be really good.

I have been taking Uceris for over a year. My UC is classed as steroid dependent. The Uceris has been effective with less side effects than pred but are still present. I just switched to generic budesonide and will start to taper from that. Hopefully I can function without the steroids this time. I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the help. I was scheduled to see my GI tomorrow but I have my mom in ICU in very critical condition so had to cancel. I talked to him through the nurse and they had me up my Uceris from once a day to twice day and we will see how that does. I have been on the pred before several times and hate the side effects but if I thought it would work now I would go back on it, but I am hoping this increase in dosage will give me some improvement. My last flare was 13 months before remission so it doesn't seem long enough to be in complete panic yet, but I am sure looking forward to some improvement.

Pred seems to work quicker than uceris. Pred being systemic and being absorbed in the blood. I think uceris takes a bit of time to work especially during a flare because it disolves in the colon and for me, nothing stays in my colon for very long .So it seems the uceris needs a chance to accumulate. I hope you're feeling better.
