tooth abscess

I was diagnosed with tooth abscess 3 days ago and am taking Penicillin. I was due for my Enbrel injection yesterday and contacted my Rheumy and was told to skip this week. I am worried about how quickly I will feel the effects of not taking this dose. Anyone?

I take a biologic, Remicade, for my UC. I have had to delay an infusion before due to illness. It was not fun! However, I did live. ;) Not sure if you are taking this weekly or what. I'm not familiar with Enbrel. If you take it weekly then I would guess you should be OK. However, if you take it every so many weeks (like I get my infusion every 6 weeks) and you are just delaying your injection for a week...then in my experience, from the one time mine was delayed, you may experience some discomfort. Even if it is a weekly injection you may experience some problems. No matter what, your body is used to a routine (assuming you have been doing this for a bit now) and your body is 'expecting' this injection. The inflammation will start to increase. There is the possibility that you will have some pain, stiffness, etc from skipping this injection. It is hard to say when you may feel these things. Then again, you may not have any problem with missing one week. It is really hard to tell ahead of time. I would plan for the worst yet hope for the best.

I hope your tooth abscess is feeling better and goes away soon! That is no fun. Be sure to supplement with probiotics while taking the antibiotics. Antibiotics kill everything, even the good bacteria. You don't want to end up with a secondary infection like a yeast infection caused by the antibiotics. Not everyone is prone to that, but some women are. It also helps prevent diarrhea if you ever experience that when on antibiotics.

I can't advise on that. But as far as abscesses go, unless really beyond help, but if you can't get to dentist right away, floss well, brush then apply pepperment oil from the health food store. about maybe $12 or less for a 1/2 oz bottle. If anything it should at least help with the pain. Clove oil is good too, but I had a more long term relief with the pepperment oil.
