I am on NuvaRing. Between all the meds I am on, the pill wouldnt absorb completely.

I was on good old ortho novum for over 20 years with no problems, until I got blood clots, which is a risk of BC pills and since we have IBD, I personally think that risk increases. But the pill itself never caused a UC flare or anything like that for me. Would you consider Mirena, which is a progestrone based IUD? RIght now, I'm on a non hormonal IUD called Paraguard. Makes my periods heavier, but I like the fact that it's non hormonal. Not everyone wants to go that route, though, which I understand.

Are you going to your regular doctor for birth control or an OBGYN?
I feel that an OBGYN is a better route to go when you have other health issues. They understand all the options and risks better, I think.

I haven't read anything about non hormonal pills, so I'd have to read up on them first before I decide to go that route!
I just went to my family doctor for the pill. I was thinking of talking to my specialist when I see him in March about which to go on but I found this group and thought maybe I could get some advice from people who have experience with this!

The IUD isn't a pill, but rather a very small device that's inserted into your uterus. It stays there between 5 and 10 years (depending on the type) or until you're ready to get pregnant. It's just another option other than the pill.

I think it's a really good idea to check all your options for sure. I think docs are too quick to just give women the pill without discussing all the options available, and all pros and cons the of the different types of birth control available.

I am on Jolessa, which is a generic for Seasonique. I love it because it means I only have a period every three months, maybe some light spotting in between. But considering how heavy and crampy they are, it helps not to have them as often and have flare-ups! I always tell my fiance my butt is menstruating too!

I use microgestrin, the generic for Loestrin24. I also did Loestrin24 but my insurance didn't cover it so I switched to the generic form and had no problems with either of them.

I've been on Lo estrin fe 24 for the past year and I've recently stopped taking it because I wanted to see if it is bothering my UC. Before I started birth control I never really had problems with my UC, but now it seems a little more irritated. I'm not sure if I should try another kind either.

It's bad enough that there are already side effects for the pill I just don't want a flare aswell. :S Hopefully I can find something that doesn't bug me or I will just have to not take anything at all!

I was told ages ago that I shouldnt go on the pill as it can cause flares? i am due my period and it also seems every time I am due i have a flare too as well. I am not sure wether the hormones in both the pill and when you get your period can mess with your tummy but Id like to find out!! If you find a good i would love to know if there are any out there...best of luck!!

heyyyy when i started going on the pill they specifically told me not to go on a bc like yaz because its a cyclic one. with UC we need to have stable hormones so i was reccommended to try and take a bc that had a constant dose that was the same every single day rather than a pill that gives different amounts of hormone throughout the month. for the past 4 years i never seemed to have an issue
