Setback

So I was working through a flare and for a week or so I was doing pretty well. Now, last night & today I've had blood & mucus again. I'm so frustrated and wondering what I could've done wrong????

I've been taking my meds faithfully, I've been eating as well as possible. Is it normal to have these types of symptoms, even after a period of good?

I had this happen to me, during my last flare a couple of times. I was released from the hospital a day after I had one of these setbacks. My doctor was more interested in my blood test numbers.

If its just a one time occurrence I wouldn't be worried. Elsewise I'd call your GI doctor.

And it's nothing you're doing wrong. It can take a while for the disease to get under complete control once you start a treatment. Let your doc know if it continues or gets worse.

Yeah, today hasn't been a good day. I've gone 5 times so far & it's now progressed to bloody diarrhea. I just want to go back into remission already...

It's an all too common way the disease torments us. It's 2 steps forward and 1 step back. Keep doing everything right and you'll get there. There could be a specific food that doesn't cause a flare, but it could exacerbate it. Your doc may try a new med if the flare lasts The quickest drugs that knock down a flare are corticosteroids, but they have the nastiest side effects.

I'm on Lialda, and my doc put me on Uceris a couple of weeks ago when the symptoms started. I'll call my doc tomorrow. I don't want to go on any stronger meds because I also have diabetes and I'm trying to get that under control as well. Between Lialda & Uceris, my blood sugar numbers have been really high.

Have you tried any alternative treatments such as fecal transplants or probiotics such as VSL 3? The reason I ask is because I used the whole regimen my doctor gave me and never had any success. Your big advantage over me now is you have the internet to search for diets and alternatives whereas back in 1988 when I finally decided on surgery, the internet didn't exist.

I read about VSL3 and I may ask about it. I'm drinking Yakult right now, but I may need something stronger.

I'm sorry you've had a setback. Yes, it's all too normal w this disease.

For the diahrea you could try Colostroplex Colostrum. I had a acupuncturist oversee and direct me on how much to take, but then I got used to adjusting myself. I guess I took it for about 3 months all together. IT's not expensive and won't hurt you. For me it firmed things up and lessened the runs.
