HI everyone, I think I've finally decided to try Remicade. I had an appt with my GI this morning and he put my mind at ease, as much as he could, about the side effects of Remicade. He pointed out that the effects of prednisone haven't been that great on my body either.
I cancelled my first infusion out of fear but now realize that I'm running out of options. The prednisone is making me feel miserable and the flares are getting worse and lasting longer. He discussed surgery with me but I am reluctant. He's setting up a consult with a surgeon so I can gather info and weigh my options. He's never given me his personal opinion before but today I flat out asked him what he'd do and he said, "If I were you I'd try the Remicade first and if it doesn't work I'd have the whole damn thing taken out." Obviously my Dr is very blunt, lol He talked more about a bag, but I think I'd rather look into a j-pouch if surgery is where I end up.
I guess I'm at the point where I have to stop being afraid and try something. Suffering through it is no longer an option. My life is being affected on a daily basis and I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. So, Remicade it is. I'm praying this works and remission is in sight. If Remicade is not the answer, I guess I'll be back to pick your brains about surgery. Thanks for the advice, it's great to have this site to come to.
