Question about bleeding

I want to know at what point you would go to see your doctor?

It has been a week straight now of bloody diarrhea.. but more importantly.. there are trips to the bathroom where the blood literally pours out of me. Today I passed something that I can only describe to you as a clot that was AT LEAST the size of the palm of my hand. No stool, just this big dark red clot (what appears to me to be a clot). I had thought I'd been passing these large clots for a while and today decided to find out what they were (please don't ask me how... :S ) And sure enough it was nearly 4 inches all the way around, big jelly like, dark red clot.

I have had two rounds of Remicade already and going for my third next Wednesday and am still taking Asacol.

Anyone experience anything like this? Should I make an appointment with my GI? I find that most of us with UC and Crohn's can handle a lot before we need to go to the doctor.

Bleeding is the thing that always makes me call my GI. You don't want that to get out of hand. Call your doc. I think bleeding is never something to be considered normal.

Sustained bleeding will cause anemia and should be checked, but the clot demands immediate attention. I've read on a number of reputable websites that clots (especially a large one as you describe) may indicate a serious condition and should be investigated ASAP. I hope you have it checked soon and find that it's nothing too serious, but you should make sure. Good luck.

I had that happen to me, and I didn't go to my GI. That was a mistake. Definitely call your GI ASAP. If you're dehydrated from all the diarrhea, you might want to consider going to the ER.

Or if you really feel like crap go to the ER. Don't be afraid to go to the hospital. Don't rely on what a GP says if you've been to see him/her. My GP (and me as well) thought I had Noro-Virus, but when 4 weeks had passed and I wasn't getting better, he sent me to the ER. I ended up having to spend 3 weeks total in the hospital. (In 3 different stays)

You can't be to careful.

I'm in the same boat as u and I have decided I will go to the hospital today. I am feeling very dehydrated and have been losing weight rapidly.

Please don't ever ignore that much bleeding, it's not a good sign, please make an appointment with your doc or go to the ER as soon as ;possible!!

You could very well have polyps. Easily taken care of, when they do the next colonoscopy. Yes, I've experienced what you describe, and then they removed a very large polyp. Good luck to you.
