I was researching UC treatments online and stumbled onto this site. I can't tell you how relieved I am to finally have people to talk to that actually get what I'm going through. It's lonely and embarrassing at times. I was told in 2006 that I "likely" had UC and was formally diagnosed about two yrs ago. My symptoms have been mild and I have done well with Asacol. Last fall I began to get worse and was given prednisone. It worked miracles for the UC but the side effects were terrible. I benefitted from a lower dose for a while but then my GI said he didn't advise prednisone long term and suggested azathioprine. Again awful side effects but ultimately did nothing for me. At my appointment today he said that the colonoscopy (YUCK!!!) revealed that the UC is considered moderate and that there is more inflammation than the last time I had the scope. He laid out the following options, remicade, 3-4wks of IV in the hospital,surgery or live with it. He suggests remicade if its covered. I'm so confused and stressed out about all of this. Has anyone else tried remicade and had success? Thanks in advance for your input!

We all have 24 hours in a day. How we spend these hours is important. Watching a little bit of a video about how sitting affects us made me aware of how much sitting and laying down I do. Gonna have to work on that.Your turn. Tell me another truth.
First of all, I would seek a second opinion. Sounds like your doctor is suggesting some pretty drastic treatments for moderate UC. I have severe UC with my entire colon affected and have been able to control things without remicade or surgery.
Everyone is different and reacts differenlty to meds and treatments. I have seen dozens of doctors and find that the advice on this site is more useful because it is by people who actually understand what you are going through.
