My cat has been sick for a while. When I first adopted him, he was throwing up all the time. The first vet that I took him to said it was hairballs. So, all this time I've been trying to "cure" his hairball problem. He got a lot worse recently. When I came home Thursday. . . well let's just say it was like something out of The Exorcist. I took him to my new vet and he ran a bunch of tests. Not leukemia, not parasites, NOT HAIRBALLS. My kitty has IBD. Can you believe that? I didn't know cats could get it too.

That is crazy! I don't even know what to say - but I have a dog that we call "the pooper" because she occassionally eats things and then can't help herself in pooping. Long story short, when I was first diagnosed and in major flare - I knew how she felt and had WAY more understanding for her. Who knows, maybe she has IBD too?

look up www.ldninfo.org there are people using low dose naltrexone for their dogs, why not cats? I take LDN for my crohn's.

Dogs, especially boxers, are well known in the vet world for getting IBD.

How come he throws up instead of D?

Cats can't tolerate aspirin; it kills them--so I guess he can't have asacol or pentasa. What does the vet give a cat who has IBD?

I hope your kitty is better soon. Maybe they will try a steroid? My dogs have taken Prednisone for allergies. I'm not sure if they use it for cats.

He does have diarrhea but not as bad a the vomiting. My vet has suggested prednisone or prednisolone. He gave Rascal a Cimetidine injection and some medicine to take every day. So far, he hasn't thrown up. I have to go back in about a week and see what to do next.

Try a good food, not a corner store brand. Too many fillers, look for food that doesn't contain by-products. Some food have almost NO protein source hence pooping too much. They also don't get any nutrition with this type of food. Might cost more, but they will eat less because it isn't all fillers. Honest.
