Hi Everyone!
I had my takedown surgery Sept 30th and came home on my birthday (what a nice gift! on Oct 3rd.... I've been doing pretty well so far. Getting use to the gas movement hasn't been so hard until today.... I often get this wave of pain in my rectum and it travels to the front of my pelvic area and sometimes up to my stomach depending on how intense it gets.... I use to think this was from pouchitis because I would get it everytime I had the barium enema test, I guess my j-pouch is a little sensitive. But right now I can feel some movement, but I can only go to the bathroom after a few waves of pain and when I go its only a little bit, until the next few waves and I'm ready to go again. It kept me up all night last night and is quite painful...Has anyone else had this problem or possibly a solution. I know I need to pay attention to what I'm eating, I still haven't gotten much of my appetite back and the hardest thing for me to get back to eating is meats....Any advice would be much appreciated!!!

My gas pains were HORRIBLE for the first couple weeks. I was worried that it would always be like that but it went away after about a month. Certain things made it worse so I did it really mild during that time. Dairy made me have the worst pains. I don't experience that at all now though. Also, it took a few weeks for me to get back an appetite too. What have you been eating? You can message me on fb if you need to. I don't get on here as often but I wanted to reply to your post. Know this - everything improves the farther from surgery you get.
I have maintained a vegetarian diet since my surgery, and I will say I still carefully control my diet. ONe of my initial disappointments, however, at least now the effort is worth something instead of being a shot in the dark with UC. Happy to answer any other questions you might have! :) Congrats and welcome to getting on with life!!
