I just got diagnosed with UC officially 3 weeks ago.
I have been riding the health roller coaster for 6 months now.

I am at my wits end because I am 18, and ALL that I think about is health. Not prom, boys, college or anything like that, just pure health.

This abdominal swelling is my king symptom right now, and has been for the entire 6 months.
I have been searching the internet nonstop for proof that long term swelling can happen in UC but so far I can not find it.

I have an appointment in 2 months with my GI so I don't know much about what to expect with UC.
I don't know which type I have either. Which is frustrating because I have been sick for awhile and have mad anxiety because of it.
So far I have the other symptoms of cramps, fatigue, missed periods, irregular stools, occasional night sweats, and joint pain, So I want to know if SWELLING is normal, it doesn't feel like a gas type of bloating.
I was given lialda. I am taking it as prescribed.

any advice will help. Please and thank you.

I am 82 years old and have had for over 2 years now .
My stomach is always swollen and I am a skinny woman .
At one point when I weighed in at 95 LBs I still had it .
My GI Doc said it was a symtom of UC.
So try to stand tal and suck it in . joan a grandmom

Some people do experience abdominal swelling. I've had it and all the other symptoms you've mentioned. If Lialda is going to work for you , it might take a while before you see results. In the meantime, try and pay attention to the foods you eat, which ones make you feel worse, which ones you can tolerate. Try and hang in there until you see your GI.

Bloating and abdominal swelling are common symptoms of IBD. Sorry.

When I was first very ill my tummy area was very tender. It was probably slightly distended, but not horribly so. However, I think that it is not strange for this to happen. Especially if you think about it. All your intestines are swollen from being inflamed. During that time I felt like my insides were sun burned. It was not nice.

I hope your meds start to help and you start to feel better soon.
