When I was sick like that, I stuck to a soft food diet, and mostly liquids...it gives the intestines a break. I started out with liquids like chicken broth, popsicles, gingerale...etc..then after 2 days I would try things like applesauce, saltines, chicken broth with rice or tiny noodles like pastina, jello, and pudding, bananas......I worked my way up everyday until my stomach felt better...if I had more of a flareup, I would start over again. It is very hard to deal with and everyone is different.
