Hey guys,
Just a quick update of where I am with the UC following a pretty crazy few weeks. I had been suffering from a pretty bad flare up since Sept. last year, and after not having luck getting emergency appointments due to losing so much blood each time I went to the loo, had to go into accident and emergency on Feb 27th.
I thought it might be a few hours and get appointment with specialist/new meds to treat the flare-up but ended up being kept in for 10 days whilst they had to battle down an infection in the colon, then the flare-up was still going on furiously regardless of prednisolone treatment. After no luck with the pred, they put me on a 5 day course of hydrocortisone via IV, and after 4 days the bleeding and most of symptoms of UC passed. Was discharged Monday night, after 10 nights in hospital (my first time staying in hospital ever - can't believe it turned out to be so long!) and on oral pred for 3 weeks, tappering off before returning to see specialist.
Symptoms good at the moment, only I look really, really fat. Monday night I got a little bit chubbier around the face, and after last night I looked really really huge. That really bugs me as I have always been naturally slim and really hate looking so huge - though I haven't put on any great amount of weight it's just the water retention.
So far the UC symptoms are much better - I had a flexi-sig camera on Monday to check the state of play following treatment, and that showed mild-active UC, saw a close cluster of ulcers also. I was surprised it wasn't more dampened down following the hydrocortisone treatment, but feeling fairly healthy there at the moment despite how it looked. Have had this few symptoms for, well, many years at the moment. Just praying that the UC will be kept under control and that my weight gain appearance will pass sooner rather than later...
The moral of this story - if it starts getting messy get treatment asap lest it get even messier!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Chask: Please go and see a specialist as soon as you can. I was on Asacol (2400 mg day) and predfoam. Neither was going anything - infact the predfoam I had been given to dampen down flare-ups was just flushed out immediately. I can't believe I put up with the severe pain etc. I was kind of worried about taking time of work in current environment but if you don't take care of yourself, no-one else will. I have gone from going to the loo 10 times a day also to 1 or 2 /day at the moment which is the best it has been for years... not sure how long it will last like this but hopefully a while. I will be of the prednisolone in 2 weeks I think...
