Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. There is no known medical or surgical cure for Crohn's disease, but there are many medical...
You say he is a "picky eater" but is this because he gets symptoms after eating and is frightened of masking things worse? Does he get pain that means he can't eat much? Maybe he has found that most foods make his symptoms worse and avoids them for that reason.
Surely you've read other threads on this site about the many people who can't eat, suffer pain and feel totally hopeless?
I'm sure there are other partners who understand your frustration, but as a sufferer I can only assure you that "picky" isn't probably the word.
Fevers are a response to inflammation, so I guess his UC is NOT controlled. Vomiting can be a sign of obstruction (the bowel being blocked) and can be accompanied by severe pain and a "rigid" abdomen.
If this is not the case (blood tests like CRP, white cells and ESR would easily confirm) then I suggest he has a severe reaction to the drugs and needs to be reassessed.
Try to read some more threads and learn more about his condition as I'm afraid being the partner of someone with bowel disease can be very challenging and we need the people closest to us to support us when the rest of the world judges us.
I started off with a Dx of UC and now it is CD & UC. I like all kinds of food, not "picky" at all. But sometimes I just look at something and know that I can't eat it. I never know in advance if I will be able to eat it or not (if we are eating out, I often ask for a to go box when I order).
Please ask your hubby to call the Dr first thing Monday.
If he has a fever I would get ahold of the GI and make sure he is on antibotics...he could have an infection in his colon which makes things worse (c-diff).
When I was really sick and compromised w/ my husband to drink propel/gatorade/pedilite,etc.
Imuran does cause you to have a yucky stomach so I take it before I go to bed.
Good Luck and I know being a caretaker is harder sometimes then the one that is sick. It is nice to see you on hear seeking advice and attempting to do the best for your husband. Hug
Did he take any of your suggestions? You're very good to find this forum to help support him - I'm sure he appreciates it, we're just not always good at showing it! :)
As for the jalapenos, it might not be as crazy as it seems. Chilis are VERY high in anti-inflammatories and when I was sick in the US I found all I could eat were pastrami, mustard and jalapeno sandwiches - go figure????
Different things work for different people, but when I'M really sick, I make a chicken broth from scratch (to avoid nasties) add chilli, turmeric (also VERY high in anti-inflammatories) ginger (good for settling the stomach) garlic (it tastes nice and I'm OK with it!!!!) a little splash of fish sauce (if he could tolerate) a little sugar (thai food needs this "sweet element" ) and some rice noodles and chicken (rice is easier to tolerate than normal egg noodles).
I posted this after your jalapeno comment as I wondered if it might appeal to him more than some "diet" foods?
When I'm really sick (other uses may find this hard to believe!!) it's the ONLY thing I can manage and it actually makes me feel BETTER.
When people say they can't tolerate spicy food, I think it may often be the ghee or other elements of the food that is the problem. Interestingly countries like India where they use a lot of spice have lower instances of crohn's and only developed it when they started eating junky western food. (See also Japan and China)
