I've been reading a book, "Beat Crohn's!" by Margaret Oppenheimer all about this liquid diet called Enteral Nutrition. While she talks about doing this treatment for 6 to 8 weeks to bring on remission, she also mentioned a doc in the book that has his patients do a liquid diet 1 to 2 days a week to give their systems a rest. Of course she goes on and on about the wonders of this liquid treatment. She claims that the US is the only modern country that uses steroids in the amount we do to treat IBD's, and that this liquid diet is comparable in success rates. Very interesting.
I am not responding to Humira, I'm actually feeling like I have the flu more and more. I'm also on prednisone and still flaring through it, even after doc upped me back up. Next step he said is imuran. But I want to ask him about this diet. Supposedly you can potentially get the "good liquid diet" to be covered by insurance even. Vs. buying ensure for example.
So has anyone had success with this? Before being diagnosed I had done a liquid diet for 5 days, and again for 7 days - but this wasn't with the "formulas" from the doc either and it wasn't for Crohn's so I wasn't paying attention. I know I can do 2 days a week. And if the pay off is remission and NO PREDNISONE, heck yea I can do it.
Anyone have ideas or tried it? thanks!

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Unfortunately most doctors don't get the nutritional thing AT ALL. In med school all they learn about is pharmaceuticals, and while I believe there is a place for drugs, I also believe that nutrition can make a huge difference. For many people, the combination of the 2 is what will work best.
