hey guys,

ive just came out of hospital and when i was there i seen a dietician who told me diet doesnt really have an effect on ibd.
im confused does it have an effect or not?

It's a lot of trial and error and the parameters are constantly changing so you have to be vigilant and flexible for it to work at all.

It is my experience and learning (from this site :)) that some people are able to lessen flares and the frequency of them by diet. It does take determination and strong follow-thru to stick to it though. A food journal is a good place to start.

I was told the same thing too. It is confussing. I do avoid breads and milk products, but sometimes something will effect then the next time it wont

The medical community does not support diet modification for UC.

I tried it their way for 10 years and took every pill they prescribed and never got any better. But they kept me coming back for more.

In January 2010 I tried the Specific Carbohydrate Diet again, having tried it and other diets before. This time I made changes to the SCD and took out a few more foods that bothered my gut. And have achieved remission, no bleeding since January, urgency and diarrhea took 4 months to go away.

So who's right. Me or them. Depends on who you ask.

If you ask me I would say that UC drugs do not have an effect on IBD. :-)

I've wanted a referral to a dietician but my specialist won't give it to me, saying diet has no effect on UC. I call BS on that. Problem is, he won't get $$ on a dietician referral, but pumping more useless drugs into me he will. Conspiracy theories here we go, lol.

ya it really is all about meds with the docs instead of diet. it just doesnt make sense. diet does abviously have an effect. i think the best diet to have is a vega diet, full of fresh fruit and veg.

I know diet is so different for everyone, but I have crohn's and I have had the most amazing results on the Atkins Diet. I have been medication-free for a year since being on it. I do still get a bit ill when Im stressed, but its way more manageable now.
