My hubby rarely gets to sleep thru the night because he is woken up needing to use the washrom, sometimes a litte too late. He uses the Tena brand "fancy pants" for protection but sometimes they don't work 100%. When this happens and if the sheets get a little soiled is gets SO upset. I just accept it, it's no big deal and I know he can't help it. My question is.....does this hapen to others as well? If he is up more than twice every hour he'll take imodium. He has not missed any work, I don't know how he continues some days will all the other medical issues he has. I guess I just needed to ask. Thanks for reading this.

I feel for your husband :( I too am up numerous time per night, sometimes as often as every hour. My bathroom is literally 8 steps from my side of the bed and sometimes I don't make it either. You sound very understanding, but it's still an issue that is hard to talk about b/c you feel so disgusted with yourself when you don't make it (at least I do) having no control over that part of your body does terrible things for the self esteem. Your poor hubby must be so tired, I know I am. (((Hugs))) to you

To answer your question: Yes!! I have to get up every night to go the bathroom several times.. And if I'm having a flare or I've eaten something that doesn't agree with me, ect, then I'm up as much as every hour. It's very exhausting, and no, I don't always make it in time. It is very humiliating and very frustrating to not be able to control your own body.. Especially if you're close to the bathroom to begin with!

And lots of psyllium husk does not pull it together such that the luiquid is mopped up better ?

I normally push the psyllium seed powder for high butyrate levels but this is the job of the husk.

No it never happened to me, but when I was a big time drinker I had another problem..oh lets not got there :)

Yes he uses a lot of metamucil so get the psyllium from that. He also uses a powder for high chlorestral (sp) and that is supposed to help bulk up too. I feel so helpless when he goes thru these bouts. He has so many ailments, it just isn't right. He never complaine either. I love him to bits.

Hey friend,

I'm thankfully not at that point any longer, but in the past yes it has absolutely happened to me. There, here, everywhere. I can't think of a more wretched feeling than not being able to get to a bathroom and going all over yourself (ESPECIALLY in a place like your bed). It's just dehumanizing and degrading. Sometimes you can only try to laugh about it so much. :( I'm so sorry. You are clearly a wonderful person and it makes me so sad that people have to deal with these conditions. It's amazing to me that he hasn't missed any work. What a strong, positive, persevering role model he is.

Me too.
Would a commode be the lesser of two evils? Right there by the bed, I know it's not nice, but might help the self esteem thing. Maybe you could make it really nice and curtain it off or something. Just a thought.
