Crohn's disease is a systemic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) of unknown cause, that results in chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. It can affect the entire gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, and can also cause complications outside of the gastrointestinal tract. Between dread and terror

I recently started having more problems than I could handle on my own and got a referral from my doctor to a gastro for a colonoscopy. Actually my appointment turned out to be with a P.A. who was an idiot. (I don't have a problem w/PA's, just idiots.) Less than 60 seconds after entering the room he smugly announced he thought I had IBS from stress and asked if anyone had ever told me that. I glared at him and said no. It went downhill from there. He finally actually looked at the four page history I had to fill out. I had forgotten to put my former doctors names and addresses on the back of the page (there was not a place to put them). He then reared back in his chair and smugly rolling his eyes asked "Just who TOLD you you had Crohn's?". When I started naming Drs., including the man considered the top diagnostic doctor in the area I used to live in (about 75 miles away, he's heard of him), he backed off a little but was not helpful. He started to leave the room and I asked if he was going to schedule a colonoscopy he asked if I thought I needed one. I informed him I hadn't had one in 5 years and my regular doctor thought I did but if he wanted to call her and tell her different go ahead.
I was given an appointment, two months away. (If I get worse they said to call. It is and I won't.) It is finally getting near, July 27, and I am scared the entire group of Dr.s may be as idiotic as this guy. He is new to their practice and I don't know if his attitude is indicative of the rest of the group. I have called and asked who I will be seeing afterward and been assured that I will be seeing a real dr. and not the idiot. (I did refer to him as the idiot "Smith" btw after being assured I did not have to see HIM again. The lady I was talking to laughed out loud when I called him that. Is that a good sign?)
Everyone in this office is helpful and nice. They work with my insurance company and I don't even have to pay my co-pay the day of the surgery. My regular P.A., whom I love and found after much trial and error, thinks highly of the group. They will even let me pay it off in installments. I can't afford to not use this group. The problem is the closer it gets to time the more nervous I get.
What if the Dr. I'm seeing is as aloof and self-worshiping as the idiot "Smith"? Over the years I have learned to expect less than nothing from Dr.s. and I have trouble making myself go unless I am in miserable shape, which I am getting into at this time.
This has turned into a rant and I am sorry about that. Are there any doctors out there that are reassuring and nice? I sure would like to hear about one.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...
Life with IBD can be soooo scary. I hope the doctor you end up with is compassionate and knowledgeable. Remember a little flirting and flattery never hurt. So smile your cutest little smile and bat the old eyelashes! (Id say flash a little leg, but youre going to flash a lot more than that!)
Sometimes I think the fear of what can happen is almost as bad as the illness itself. Over 20 years I have come to dread a flare more and more. But hey, I know I have friends here I can vent to occasionally and that helps. Thanks.
