Anyone tried/use Apriso? It's mesalamine extended release capsules. I just started taking it a few days ago. 4 capsules once per day.
I was taking Colazal...3X per day....and before that Asacol 3X per day. I've had UC for ~15 years now and always had to take meds spaced out through the day for maintenance. Only taking them once a day is taking some adjusting to....but will be fantastic once I get used to it.
I can't comment on how I'm doing on Apriso since it's designed for maintenance and not to treat a flare. I went to my GI with a small flare that has been going on for some time - I can't seem to shake it. I think I need a quick blast of prednisone or something just to kick start the healing. Will call my GI on Tuesday which will have been a week since my last appointment. I hate to have to fall back on prednisone but it seems to be the only thing that works quickly for me and I really don't want this flare to get out of control.

My 6mo twin DD's are EBF and just started rice cereal on the first. Everything has been going fine except this morning one of them had a diaper rash (lots of redness around her anus). I read this as one of the signs of an allergy. BUT I did just buy a different brand diaper yesterday (which they have used randomly before w/no issues). Do you think its the cereal or the diaper? Im ready to start...

Since I'm new to all of this, I have a lot to learn. I research and read support group blogs for hours every day! I'll talk to my doctor more too. I'm excited about this site...I've read through many posts and everyone seems so caring and supportive! I look forward to chatting with everyone.

I have been doing much better although I'm sure it's down to the prednisone.
I'm willing to give the Apriso a chance however, I do have a couple of concerns - I'm not sure the prescribed strength is powerful enough. I'll look into Lialda and keep that in mind to mention at my next appointment.
Sapphire22 I also share your concerns, I had also read the part about Apriso keeping UC in remission for up to 6 months. Good idea for us to share notes on how we are doing on Apriso...keep in touch :)
My GI seemed pretty excited about the delivery system of Apriso - it's in capsule form and I think more readily reaches the colon to target colitis. I used to take Asacol which was a solid tablet - I always wondered how effectively it dissolved in the colon easpecially considering the speed at which things travel through our systems most of the time! Fraz - I'm interested to hear more regarding the stem cell study?
