Anal Fissure

I've been having rectal pain and bleeding for some time now. It recently got REALLY bad and I finally went to see a specialist and to get an exam. He wasn't able to do a full exam because I was way to sore. It turns out I have an anal fissure which is basically a tear in the rectum. He said it was so deep he could see the muscle and surgery was probably the only thing that would fix it. I'm scheduled next Friday for my surgery. I was curious if anyone has had one or gone through this surgery? Mine was caused my excessive diarrhea that I've had since my last surgery a little over a year ago. I guess anal fissures are very common for anyone but they usually heal as quickly as a cut in your mouth would.

I had an anal fissure and needed surgery for it. Before the surgery whenever I had a bowel movement it felt like a knife in my rectum. The surgery was initially successful, but the fissure reopened later, but was successfully treated with meds. Hang in there; you will feel better after the surgery!

Have had one for about a decade before my UC dx last year. Now I distinguish between anal fissure bleeding and UC bleeding by the fact 90% of the time I have fully formed poop and if it is a single red line then it is the fissure. If it is less formed/blood in a few spots it is the UC. Of course once a month it is bleeding for another (female) reason.

I'll be honest tho...after steroids for onset UC which was copous amounts of blood I have only had 2 brief episodes of UC bleeding in a year. Most times it is just fully formed poop with once in a while single streak blood. So yeah I should probably go back on Fe (iron) too.

PS Thanks for this post my doc 10 years ago never brought up GI surgery. If I go back to GI I will ask if it as progressed to the point of needing this fix.
