I'm with you on missing out on one of life's pleasures due to UC. I also have more trouble with beer than wine. Harder alcohol is out of the question unless I want to be miserable the next few days.

I'm lucky though. Red or white is usually fine, as long as it's only a glass or two. My problem is more with meds than with UC itself. I'm on so many pain killers that I rarely have the opportunity to enjoy a glass or two of wine anymore. Say I have a bottle of beer or one glass of wine... I feel as though I've had a six pack. I drink so little these days that even a small amount hits me hard. I even have the killer hangover the next day, from one drink!!! Wahhh :(

I've pretty much stopped drinking alcohol over the past several years. I will have one or maybe 2 glasses of white wine when I'm out for a special dinner. Never was a fan of reds so no problem there. I was always more of a beer drinker, oh how I loved a good pilsner! Stopped beer when I went gluten free 2 years ago. Have since discovered gluten free beer; not bad.

Beer and red wine were always problems for me pre-diagnosis. Now, I don't touch anything because I live in fear of mixing alcohol with prednisone, pentasa and whatever else I might be taking (was imuran, soon to be methotrexate). I'm just worried my liver is going to give up and walk out, or I'll end up with some sort of poisoning or something...
How safe is it to have say *1* glass of white wine on these medications? Just from the medication point of view, not so much the intestinal ramifications which I can guess at... :S

I love beer but went without for a long time because I was on Zocor for cholesterol. When I switched to Lipitor my doctor said I could have an occasional beer. I switched to 3.2 beer from the grocery so I could have it a little more occasionally without damaging my liver more than the statin drugs already have. It doesn't bother my UC. In fact, it really helps lower my stress levels and makes my day more pleasant.

nope i cant have any of it .. tried 2 drinks at my bestfriends wedding(i have known her since i was 4 and im 27 now) it was a very bad night and day after .. i will never NEVER do that again

Can't do beer anymore. It just turns be off to even think about it. Clear booze, like vodka and gin don't bother me. Red wine doesn't bother me either. For me, moderation is key. If I do too much over a long haul, it catches up with me and I feel like garbage. Last year this time, I was very free wheeling with the drinks over the holiday season and I started to feel really ill from it after a while.
