Really pleased to have found the D. S. community and especially sites like this. With the best efforts possible it's not always easy to feel part of the rest of the world. I guess we all have varying degrees of this COPD and try our best to do what we can with our limitations. Bit of a nightmare at times!
I'm interested to hear how other single members manage their illness and perhaps open up a dialogue to support one another?

So happy you joined, COPD can be a nightmare at times, with all the meds we take that have cortisone in them. There are so many side effects. I have a good pulmonary Doctor who I see anytime I am having problems, he usually puts me on prednisone and antibiotics, I got pneumonia last summer as the inhalers I am on and the prednisone makes one susceptible to pneumonia. There is a vaccine for pneumonia, but I haven't taken it yet.
Winter is on its way here (Canada) , it is hard to breathe in winter, heat in the house makes the air dry and outside is so cold that my lungs freeze. Tell us about England.

I walk short distances and for that I'm thankful as I wouldn't see much of anyone if I didn't.
It does leave me SOB though and I sometimes can't help feel a bit of a prat as it's often a stop/start as I make my way along the street.
As you say it's hard to breathe in winter and cope with temperature changes and the cold.
Of course England would not be as cold as your part of the world , at least I don't think so, but there must be some stunning sights to see there, (guess I'm thinking white snow/blue skies!). We do have some beautiful scenery here and I love the changing seasons - spring being my favourite followed by autumn. I live in what is called the East Midlands, in a small town where there is a supermarket and bus stop nearby and in general the people are friendly.
You mentioned the pneumonia vaccine Jazz. I was reluctant to have this back in 2000 after a severe asthma attack and intensive care. I also have M.E but was advised to go ahead with both this vaccine and flu also. Just to say that my own fears were unfounded and I didn't have any side effects but this of course is something only you can decide for yourself.

I don't react well to the flu shot, but i heard the pneumonia shot is less invasive to people's system.
I might give it a go. I certainly don't want that again.
Montreal comes close second to Alberta where it is freezing all the time. We also have changing seasons which are beautiful. I do love my city , with the quebec winter carnival in the winter and the Jazz Festivals in the summertime, not to mention Just for Laughs and many festivals all around, including the Reggae Festival and Parades from the Carribean, so many ethnic origins here, Greek celebrations, Iittle Italy which also has it's Festival in the summer and to top it off African Festival. Streets get closed for these events.
I would like to exercise more, for my health but working full time takes a toll on my moving about once I get home.
