Zithromax May Help Lung Function in COPD Patients (Video)

Regular use of the antibiotic azithromycin, commonly known as Zithromax, can help improve lung functioning among individuals suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, according to research published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Symptoms of COPD include:
A productive cough that just wont go away
Shortness of breath, especially when exerting oneself
Taking a long time to recover from lung infections such as the flu or a chest cold
Researchers from Denver Health and Department of Medicine randomly assigned more than 1,000 patients with COPD to received 250 mg of Zithromax every day or a placebo in addition to their usual care. The investigators followed up nearly all these patients for one year.
During the study period, those taking Zithromax took longer to experience a worsening of their symptoms than those on placebo and also had fewer episodes of worsening symptoms overall. Scores on a standard measure of respiratory functioning improved more among those taking the drug, but they were also more likely to experience some hearing loss, which is a known side effect of long-term use of Zithromax.
Todays research suggests adding Zithromax to usual medical care could improve the lives of individuals suffering from COPD. Caution should always be exercised when using antibiotics long term, however, as this can contribute to the development of resistant bacteria.

The caution is a real problem using antibiotics frequently, it sure does upset the friendly bacteria in the bowel, this is true for many people. I found a course of pro biotics help this.
