Well I certainly never intend to smoke again but I can't help but be curious. Was this some part of the infection I had that can be misdiagnosed as copd? I mean I didn't really give up cigs so much as the cigs gave me up, or maybe moreso my body finally rebelled at the cigs. I'll not look a gift horse in the mouth and I'll tell you true I had the first really good sleep I've had in a month where I didn't go to sleep worried about the future which is a bit ridiculous because it can't be controlled yet that is the facts and I'm just like that a bit I guess.

i love this site and the good news some people put on here about COPD and getting lucky..so what did you do to get so lucky..like what did they have you taking for your copd? i want some of that stuff...good going....

I wish it was something I was taking, something I could share or give some secret to and I don't necessarily say I'm home free only that the most recent x-ray is good, and different from the one a month prior. If anything it would be an incorrect or maybe an incomplete diagnosis. This may not be the last of this for me since something definately caused my body to rebel against the smoke. I hope and pray for the best anyways but I doubt I'll be able to feel totally secure until a few years have passed without a return engagement with this lung issue or any other thing that might have triggered it.

Hey Zig, I am nothing but horse hair tickled and so damn envious of you, so, go along and let me play devil's advocate with a statement and a few questions. First of which: COPD or any of the illnesses under the COPD "umbrella" cannot be determined by one x-ray alone. It takes a lot of other studies, by a trained expert, a pulmonologist, to determine if you truly have one or more of the illnesses under that COPD "umbrella".

Was your re-diagnosis made by a pulmonologist after a series of lung related tests, or a regular GP based on the one x-ray. A little personal note: jokingly of course, but my lungs have been x-rayed and CT Scanned so many times in the last 4 years, it's a small wonder that I don't glow in the dark! Not to mention ALL of the breathing tests I've endured, or the two occasions where two different pulmonologists have gone into my chest cavity to see WHAT IS NO LONGER THERE anymore. No details of them, they're just too gruesome. I will tell you this though, I will never, ever, have an outcome like yours, so please heed the advice of others and never, ever, light up another cigarette. If ya feel the need for a joint, don't smoke it, make brownies instead!

Yes Jarca it really was a horrid experience, and yet at the same time an awesome reality check, a chance for insight into myself and others, and an opportunity to make the necessary life changes, a la quitting smoking, that I may very well had not been able to do otherwise. I guess that month of concern, worry, insomnia, racing thoughts etc. was the price I pay for this golden opportunity. I will never ever smoke again. For that result alone it was worth it. Even though I had never experienced shortness of breath other than in hard excercise after just a few weeks as a non smoker I noticed today that I had what seemed like double the wind for the 2 laps of my 8 city block long track of walk, run and a 2 block long steep hill climb at a fast paced walk. I was so relieved to see the progress that I laughed out loud.....really loud. Thank god. I'll not regret this month or the great helpful people I met here and who got me calmed down. You are all awesome selfless people.
