Hi,
I bought a ventless corner fireplace years ago to put in our spare room. It came with sterno cans for the fuel to heat the room.It said to be used in a ventilated area. Even with a window open the smell of the fumes was too much so we got rid of it. I personally don't think it would be good for anyone with good or bad lungs. But thats just my opinion.

Just my opinion, but any type of gas, propane, etc. has to be vented. Many people die every winter from carbon dioxide poision, cause from such sources. Fire need oxygen to burn..and we need oxygen to breath. I would check with the manufacturer about proper ventilation. And don't forget to open your garage door about a foot if you go out to warm your car.

It is my opinion that COPD sufferers should have vented heaters.

I have natural gas in my home, but the wall heater in living room doesn't heat the kitchen & bath area of my home so I have one of the 'blue flame" ventless heaters in my kitchen.
No one including myself smells anything, I have had it for years & it has worked well for me.
it is very important to buy the right size heater for the right size of room.

Before that I had to use wood & coal to heat that part of the house. That was horrible, even though it vented out side.
I tried electric heat turned as low as possible to keep pipes & me from freezing, but my bill went up over $200.00 a month when we reached subzero weather!!!
I could not afford that!

My son has one of the "free standing" fireplaces in his Living room & he loves that. He used to have to close off that room in the winter. It is "prettier' than my wall mounted blue flame, but does the job as well.
I do not know how the propane works, I know they sell them to be used with propane also.

i have the "Blue Flame Heater" on the wall in my kitchen.

My son has the 'Compact Gas Fireplace System'
we did have to run the gas to them. luckily I had gas to my kitchen stove so it was a matter of just running a T with a couple of feet of pipe to get where i wanted.

My son had a regular fireplace where he put his. He had tried those gas logs & wasn't happy with them as he had to block off the chimney to make it not have any leaks....he removed the fireplace & replaced it with the "fake" fireplace and it warms the room so much better, cheaper & he feels safer than the logs.

I also had one of the fireplaces in my mothers house. She had an electric furnace that was too expensive to run, so this added ambiance & warmth for much cheaper.

I also run a carbon monoxide senser in every room along with a smoke alarm (they make both). Every year we have on the news people dying of CO poisoning, but that is usually big furnaces that haven't had the proper care & filters changed.

good luck. they sell these at most hardware stores, just be sure to measure the room & don't buy one that is "too big" for the area you need to install it.
