Well, one more try here. DS playing it's games this morning.

Peter I know you deal with the upper body pains all the time like I do. The rib pain from hyperinflation can make you want to scream. Then I went and cracked one last month which made it all the more special.
Nothing seems to help it.

Then there's the "old injury" pains which this crappy disease helps remind you of as well.

Still in all you try and put on a smile. Because you know what? There ARE worse diseases. There are some support boards on here that make me want to cry when I read what people, young people who should be enjoying life a lot, are putting up with. So then I think what Birdcat wrote. Then I go back to my pity party ;)

Peter and Promises, I am so sorry about your pain. I am blessed that I haven't gotten there, yet, I don't think. I have a lot of aches & pains, but think it is mostly aging pain!
Peter, thank you so much for posting that information. My daughter has suffered with chronic pain for years, due to an automobile accident when she was 19. That article helps me to understand more about some of the things she does (and doesn't do).
Hope you both and all our DS friends have a good breathing and lesser pain day!!

I read the article and promptly read my copy of my PFT. Sure enough, I have hyperinflation. I hate the thought of having more pain down the road. Heaven only knows, I have enough pain from my other problems. I wish I could wave a wand and make it all disadisappear for us. Since I can't do that, I'll pray for us to find ways to combat the pain!

great information. to be in chronic pain no one can understand.
and i HATE the 1 to 10 scale===what i once thought was a 10 has changed as the pain worsens.
i finally worked out a deal with my dr of me explaining how i can or cant function because the scale is misleading to us both.

Of course not...it needs to get around more cos I feel tired of saying I can't do something but its not cos I do not want to, its just I cannot at this time...lol

Well, I believe in the power of touch. It can be so soothing just to have someone put their hand on your arm. I would recommend offering a foot or back massage. Don't most of you think that would feel good? Think I'll ask for that for Christmas.

Because COPD is not supposed to hurt. Right :( You read so many places where chronic pain is common with it. And lots of people don't hurt with it. Well it's real obvious it hits everyone differently, so, same with the pain.

The way I explain my back pain is....has anyone seen the movie Deloris Clayborn with Kathy Bates? When she was cooking cabbage and her drunk husband comes up behind her and picks up a log and slams her dead across the middle of her back...thats how I feel every day...sitting standing and sometimes even when I lay down. It is soooo hard to pretend but I try to be like a cat and not let on just how bad I feel. I have discovered that the quickest way to run people off is to try to tell them about your pain. Yes we have to be a strong lot.
