Things are most likely going to change with Mom. There should be a socal worker at the hospital to help you sort through the options for your Mother.
My Mom is 81 yrs old, had a fall in 2011 broke her pelvic, she too has end stage COPD. She did go to rehab for 6 weeks and did very well, but the social workers told me that she either needs 24/7 care at home or we need to look for Assisted living. The cost of 24/7 care at home would be out of sight, so we looked for a good Assisted living .. Mom has been in Assisted living for a little over a year now . Her COPD is getting worse , but I know she has someone there all the time to help her and check on her.
So, let the system help you to find the best arrangement for your Mom. I don't see how you could bring her home with you as you have your own problems. You need to care for yourself.. to be able to help her.
My Mom is very happy where she is... they do all her meds for her, she gets 3 very good meals at day, plus snacks. they help her with dressing and washing and she can call for them anytime she needs something.. I am there all the time, and I did take her to all her doctors appointments, but that is getting harder.. they also provide transportation for her doctors if needed.
I have no sibilings to help , so I can say Assisted living helps me as well..
I know this is hard for you, plus you aren't feeling well.. Please email me anytime and we can talk... i just want you to know, we as daughters can do just so much for our Mothers... I feel I have done the best I can and she knows I am always here for her... with the Grace of God things are working out with my mother, and they will also work out with your Mom... I would if I were you get a hold of the Social Worker at the hospital and have a good talk with what they are thinking about your Mom's condition
I don't know if this helps you feel a little better, but you aren't alone .
If I can help , I am here for you !!
Praying for you and your Mom......Linda
Maybe this will help her?
She sounds alot more alert today.. I'm feeling a bit more positive today too. I slept good *in shifts*, as i always do...1am till about 6, then go back to sleep from 730 am until around 1030am...
i'm finding out with extra rest, i feel better so i'm going to listen to my body.
Yes, i will get the social worker to call me. Great idea!
tHANKS again for being my surrogate "family"!!!
Boo
So sorry to hear about your mom. I agree with Linda that assisted living may be the best for her, and you need the time to take care of yourself also, and tend to your medical needs.
Call Bill, and the two of you can discuss this, but if he does not even know how bad she is, I hope he takes it well.
Do talk to the social workers at the hospital, and they can answer all your questions, and check out any homes they suggest until you find one you feel will take the best care of her.
I know all this has to be very hard on you, and when your mom learns she will not be going home, she may get more depressed.
So have the talk with the doctor, social worker, and your brother, and also your mom if she is able to understand you. I say that because sometimes nurses and doctors talk over the patient directly to the family, like the patient is not even in the room. Happened to me once, and I was really fit to be tied. I let them know I can answer questions about myself, and can speak for myself. All situations are different.
Blessings to you and your Mom
Brenda
5 months later i was diagnosed with this and progressing fast.
i just than god that i was there for my mom and your mom's AND you are blessed to be there for your moms'
it is hard now, but there are the rewards and wonderful memories.
(i'm not trying to imply that your moms are at "their" end---just trying to let you know that it is all worth it when their end comes.
((((HUGS)))) and lots of love and prayers to all the caretakers.,
